The Bolt Broadcast: December 2019

Hello all,

Coach Bella here, I hope everyone had a Delightful December and a wonderful holiday season.

In December, the Lightning travelled to Punta Gorda. It was a long day but our swimmers persevered and all did very well with Personal Bests for everyone.

We also organized a Holiday Exchange and Christmas practice! Thank you to all the coaches, parents, and swimmers involved as it was a success!

We held our final morning practice until summer break. We will still be swimming on Saturday Mornings as always. We will reevaluate morning practices in June as school will be out for Summer break.

Here are some updates moving forward:

-Polar Bear Club started on Dec 26! It will run through Jan 8th. Attendance will be taken and swimmers must participate in complete practices to get credit for it. If you have any questions please see any Coach on deck.

-We have been notified from Tervis that due to the low number of orders for our LRSA Lightning Tervis cups, they will not be able to process our order until after the holiday.  I was very disappointed to hear this and I apologize to those of you that hoped to have these by then.  The latest information from Tervis is that we will have the order sometime in January.  Again, we apologize and thank you for supporting our team.

-We have some very exciting news! We have been invited to attend a two-day Fitter and Faster  Butterfly & Breaststroke swim camp at Selby Aquatic Center on March 28 & 29! Butterfly and breaststroke are highly technical and rhythmic strokes. This camp will allow our team to drop time and race faster in every fly and breast race (as well as the IM)! Session sizes are limited. We cannot wait for this event and we strongly recommend everyone click the link below to read more about the curriculum and to register ASAP. We want all of our swimmers to learn from a National Champion and Elite Clinician the techniques necessary to improve! Prices will increase on February 6th! See EMAIL sent for registration link. There will be two sessions each day, one for swimmers ages 11 and under and one for swimmers ages 12 and older. The curriculum each day will be:

March 28:  Butterfly Technique

March 29:  Breaststroke Technique

Sign up for one or SAVE by signing up for both days! Each session will be led by Elite Clinician and National Champion  Tom Luchsinger ! Tom is one of Fitter and Faster’s most popular and effective clinicians. We can’t wait for everyone to learn from him! See you there!

- The 2020 GCST Winter Open at FGCU is coming up on January 18th! Registration deadline is the 17th. We hope to see all our bolts there!

- As of February 1, 2020 there will be a $10 per month fee increase to all level swimmers. This fee increase is necessary to cover increasing expenses, so that we may continue to provide training to our coaching staff and provide the best possible swim program to our swimmers.  It has been over 8 years since we have had an increase in our fees.  In addition to this increase, I am asking for parent/family assistance at swim practices.  As you all know our current pool situation has a locked gate for entry to our pool.  It can be a distraction for swimmers and coaches to have to walk to the gate during practice. I would like to ask that if you are a parent or family member that is available to sit near the gate during practice that you please do that, to help with entry to the pool as swimmers arrive at different times.  Any assistance you can give is greatly appreciated. We do not have required parent/family volunteer hours like many teams do. This is one way that you can really help us out.

Upcoming Birthdays for this month include Cameron Severs, Scott Barkey, Logan Stutzman, Khushi Talluru, Aarya Sateesh, and Chase Christie. Make sure to wish them a Happy Birthday if you see these Bolts on deck!

Thank you to all the parents for their continued dedication to the team as always. Lets have some more fun and continue to grow stronger together.

Happy New Year,
Coach Isabella Ortiz

This January we competed in two meets. January 12th we attended the Sarasota Winter Meet in Arlington Park. It was a huge success for our first time meet participants Nico Leguizamon and Mia Pistanek as well as our other bolts that participated in that meet!

Congratulations are in order to Parker Haught for her 50 free time of 30.48 which earned her a "BB" cut and is 0.50 seconds away from a "A" Cut. 50 Fly of 33.98 was good enough for a "BB" cut as well as her 100 IM time of 1:19.32 which earned her a "B" cut. Congratulations also to Nicole Majewski for her times of 100 free 1:04.02 for a "BB" cut also on the cusp of an "A" cut. 200 free of 2:23.62 earned her a "B" cut as well.

January 20th we braved the elements and travelled to FGCU for the 2019 GCST Winter Open. Congratulations are in order to all our swimmers and parents that represented at this meet. It was a cold one, even still all of our Bolts made the best of the situation. The Lightning Coaches are always proud of everything we continue to accomplish together.

Huge thank you to all the parents and swimmers this month for your continued patience and understanding during our times of repair. Thank Goodness we are back in our home pool and ready to continue to get work done together.

The Bolt Broadcast: December 2018

Hello All,

Coach Bella here, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays! December was such a busy month! Between meets, loyalty cards, and holiday cheer we have a lot to cover.

On December 8th we went to St Pete for the 2018 Harry Meisel West Championship Meet and saw some amazing improvement from all of our bolts. Jake Byrd made B cuts in the 100 & 500 freestyle. Sydney Hilt made a Double B cut in freestyle winning 3rd place overall at the meet as well as another Double B in Breaststroke. Nicole Majewski made B cuts in her 200 IM as well as her 500 free. Every swimmer at this meet made personal best times and made us Lightning Coaches so very proud.

Loyalty Cards went out this month as well! Congrats to The Demino Family for being our top seller, selling 60 cards!  They will receive 1 month's swim free, get their swimmers picture on next year's card, be the coach for a day and something personalized from Coach Heather. The Kovatch Family is our 2nd top seller, selling 40 cards!  They will receive 1/2 a month's swim fee, be the coach for a day and something personalized from Coach Heather.

If you have not yet picked up your cards, please see one of the coaches.  We still have extra cards available, so please keep on selling and supporting your team!

We also finished out our month with Polar Bear Club! It will be ending Tuesday this week so stay tuned for further details on who made perfect attendance.

We had our Secret Santa/Holiday Practice December 22nd and it was huge success. Thank you to Coach Amanda for organizing and to the Benninghoff family for providing hot chocolate for all our swimmers. And a huge thank you to all the swimmers and parents for participating as well.

We have two meets to look forward to this month! Thank you to all the parents for their dedication to the team during this holiday season. Lets continue to have fun and grow stronger together.

See you on deck,

Coach Isabella Ortiz
