Training Groups Descriptions and Standards

Planet Swim Aquatics offers 4 training groups as part of our year-round swim program. Each training group has its own requeriments and age restrictions. When assingning training groups, our coaching staff takes in consideration both skill level and age. Below is a detailed description and standards for each training group.

 

Sailfish I

This training group is designed for swimmers who are starting to swim competitively. In this group, swimmers can expect to work on development of all 4 swimming strokes, starts and turns technique. Sailfish I offers a perfect opportunity for swimmers who swim summer/recreational leagues looking to swim year-round.  We recommend attending at least 2 practices per week to make sure the swimmer has the opportunity to work on different skills as the season progress.

Requirements: 

  1. Be at least 6-years-old.
  2. Must be able to swim 25 yards Freestyle and Backstroke and understand the basics of Butterfly and Breaststroke.
  3. Be capable of keeping up with the group during training.

Training Equipment:

Team suit, swimming goggles, team cap (if the swimmers wear one), water bottle, Junior kickboard and fins.

 

Sailfish II

Sailfish II is an extension of our Sailfish I group as it offers swimmers an opportunity to continue developing stroke technique while being introduced to aerobic training. Swimmers in this group are expected to attend at least 4 training sessions per week.

Requirements: 

  1. Be at least 8-years-old.
  2. Must be able to swim 50 yards of all four swimming strokes.
  3. Be capable of keeping up with the group during training.
  4. Be capable to read the pace clock and manage intervals

Training Equipment: 

Team suit, swimming goggles, team cap (if the swimmers wear one), water bottle, Junior kickboard, fins, pull bouy and snorkel.

 

Age Group Elite 

In this particular group swimmers are expected to begin refining their commitment to the sport as they begin participating in championship meets which requires qualifying time standards including Florida Age Group Championships (FLAGS). This group focuses on further development of the Aerobic and Anaerobic capacities while developing race strategy skills. Swimmers in this group are expected to attend at least 5 training sessions per week.

Requirements: 

  1. Be at least 10-years-old.
  2. Must be able to swim 500 yards freestyle non-stop and 100 yards of all four swimming strokes.
  3. Be capable of keeping up with the group during training.
  4. Be capable to read the pace clock and manage intervals

Training Equipment: 

Team suit, swimming goggles, team cap (if the swimmers wear one), water bottle, kickboard, fins, pull bouy, hand paddles, snorkel and parachute.

 

Elite

The Elite training group is the highest level of training available at Planet Swim Aquatics. Swimmers in this group are expected to participate not only in their regular in-water training sessions 6x per week, but also dryland training in the morning 3x per week. Most participants are High School student-athletes looking to qualify for Florida Sr. Championships, Sectionals, Nationals and High School State Championships. Besides participating at the highest level meets in the nation, swimmers in this training group are often looking to obtain an athletic scholarship to swim in college.

Requirements: 

  1. Be at least 13-years-old and/or be in High School.
  2. Must be able to swim 1650 yards/1500 meters freestyle non-stop and 200 yards of all four swimming strokes.
  3. Be capable of keeping up with the group during training.
  4. Maintain 85% attendance during the season.
  5. Attend 60% of the swim meets on the schedule for the season.

Team suit, swimming goggles, team cap (if the swimmers wear one), water bottle, kickboard, fins, pull bouy, hand paddles and snorkel.

 

Masters (18 & up)

PSA Masters group is registered with USA Masters offering a friendly and positive environment to anyone who is interested in working on their technique, race strategy and conditioning for your next Triatlhon or simply just keeping in shape. Our mission is to encourage adults to swim regardless of their swimming ability and background. There is no real upper age nor skill level restrictions, everyone is welcome to join this unique group that is led and structured by an experienced coaching staff on a daily basis. Participants in this group may chose to attend practices 2x, 3x or 5x per week.
