Finnegan Lear commits to the University of California Santa Cruz

Finnegan Lear commits to the University of California Santa Cruz.  Lear has come up through the Sharks’ ranks since 2012.  Known for his mile he also swims middle distance and backstroke.  He was a finalist in the 2020 FHSAA 4A State Championships in the 500 Freestyle his senior year with the Riverview Ram’s High School team and more recently the 200 backstroke at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships.  Lear was also five-time finalist at last week’s Florida State Senior Spring Championships.  Finn swum all four years at Riverview High School while attending Pine View School for the Gifted.  Lear also became a 2020 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist this past December.  Finnegan will be a Banana Slug studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology while swimming for Coach Crawford and the defending Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Men's Champions.

Pine View is a special program designed to meet the unique needs of intellectually gifted students on a broad-based campus.  Established in 1969, is Sarasota County's public school for intellectually gifted students. As a public school, Pine View is open to students throughout Sarasota County. Pine View offers classes in grades 2 through 12.
