T2 Aquatics 2020-2021 Season Group Descriptions

Introduction Group Description

Ages 6-9

Group Description:  Athletes must have a legal 25 Freestyle with proper side breathing and 25 Backstroke, both with good body position.  This group is designed to introduce young swimmers into the sport of swimming.  Emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes by means of drills and games that make swimming fun.  Swimmers in this group are learning the rules of the competitive strokes as well as the “in’s and out’s” of USA Swimming competitions.  There is no attendance requirement for this group, but athletes will improve more quickly, and make more friends (which will make them want to come more!), the more often they attend practice.  2-3 practices a week are recommended for regular improvement.  Almost all meets for the Introduction group are local (Naples/Ft. Myers).

Goals of the Intro Group:

  • Athletes understand how important it is to be respectful of coaches and teammates.
  • Focus on learning the fundamentals of the four competitive swimming strokes.
  • Athletes will be introduced to the basics of the pace clock.
  • Foster a love of the pool – both practice and competition.
  • Athletes are encouraged to attend 2-3 practices a week.

Senior 1 Group Description

Ages 14&Older, 9th Grade Minimum

Group Description:  The Senior 1 Group is the first level in our Senior program. Practices are conducted for one and a half hours offered 6 days per week. In addition, the swimmers will do dryland exercises three days per week and warm up to swim on land before each practice. Practices entail technique and training incorporating all four strokes as well as kicking, pulling and turn and start skill work. Practices vary each day but remain focused on improving the technique, endurance and speed of the athletes thus improving their competitive swim times. The only requirement is that each swimmer make honest effort and focus in practice. Meets are offered about once per month. Swimmers are automatically opted into meet but may opt out by specified opt-out date. Coaches select swimmers’ events in meets.

  • Must know how to legal swim all four strokes for 50 yards
  • Swimmers must be 14 years old and in 9th grade

Senior 2 Group Description

Ages 14&Older, 9th Grade Minimum

Group Description:  Athletes in the Senior 2 group have demonstrated a higher level of commitment and performance standard in their swimming. Thus, the training level reflects an advancement in volume, speed and complexity. The focus is reaching the highest levels in USA Swimming competitions. Training sets and practices are longer along with dryland exercises and warm up to swim before each training session. Our philosophy is anti-specialty, we feel excellence is achieved through versatility. Thus, our training and racing focus is not on the shorter events, but more toward the 200s of stroke, distance freestyle and the Individual Medleys. A near perfect practice and meet attendance is expected.
