New Tampa Practice Groups

Developmental - The Developmental Group is the entry level group to our program.  Organized in small groups, swimmers will work with an instructor who is in water giving hands on technical advice.  Each of our instructors will work with 3-5 swimmers as they refine skill development and practice drills and techniques which will set the foundation for these newer members of our program.

Ages - 5-10 years old

Minimum Requirements - Swimmers at this level should be able to swim at least 15 yards with freestyle side breathing, 15 yards of backstroke swim and kick, have a basic understanding of breaststroke skills and should be able to perform a basic butterfly kick.  

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Thursday for 45 minutes.  There is no minimum attendance for this level.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Meets - Swimmers at this level are only eligible to attend mini-meets with their Coach's pre-approval.

Arbor Greene - Monday-Thursday - 3:15-4:00pm

Heritage Isles - Monday-Thursday - 6:15-7:00pm


Blue - The Blue Group is for more advanced novice level swimmers.  At this level we begin to challenge swimmers with more advanced drill progressions while introducing them to foundations of the competitive swimming world.  Coaches at this level focus on giving personal feedback to each swimmer in the class as they grow and develop the competitive swimming skills.  

Ages - 6-10 years old

Minimum Requirements - To join the Blue group, swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of each of the four strokes - Freestyle (with side breathing), Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and 25 yards of continuous kicking with and without a kickboard).  Breaststroke and Butterfly strokes may not be perfectly legal to be eligible to join this group.

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Thursday for 45 minutes, with 15 minutes of dryland before or after.  There is not a minimum attendance for this level.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Meets - Swimmers at this level are highly encouarged to attend mini-meets any time they are available.  Blue swimmers may also participate in USA Swimming Sanctioned Meets with their Coach's pre-approval.

Bronze - The Bronze Group is the first step our swimmers take into the world of Competitive Swimming.  Swimmers in this group will continue to grow their drill progression skill set while enhancing their competitive drive for the sport of swimming.  Coaches will begin to introducing racing strategies and skills while organizing practices to increase young swimmers stamina and endurance.  Swimmers in the Bronze Group are expected to begin to commit to the sport of swimming and understand practice attendance and meet participation are both important factors to their continued development in our program.

Ages - 7-12 years old

Minimum Requirements - Bronze swimmers are expected to demonstrate an advanced understanding of all four strokes as well as drills and skills associated with these strokes.  Swimmers should be able to handle 2/3 of the following test sets:

(1) 12x25 Free on :45 (2) 12x25 IMO on :50 (3) 12x25 kick on :50 (each stroke with or without a board)

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Thursday for 1 hour and 15 minutes and Friday-Saturday for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Friday and Saturday practices vary based on the team's Meet Schedule.  Swimmers at this level understand practice attendance is important and should strive to attend at least 3-4 practices per week.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Dryland - Bronze swimmers start to become introduced to basic dryland skills and techniques.  Each practice will begin with 5-10 minutes of active movement.  Practice on Friday and Saturday will consist of 30 minutes of organized dryland which will involve basic athletic development and team building skills.  Monday-Thursday dryland does not require shoes.  Tennis/Athletic shoes are required for practice on Friday and Saturday.

Meets - Swimmers at this level are expected to attend swim meets on a regular basis.  Younger swimmers may participate in mini-meets but we encourage all swimmers to attend USA Sanctioned Meets as often as possible.  Swimmers in this group should set a goal of attending at least 8 swim meets per year.

Hunter's Green - Saturdays only 8:30-10:00am (practice time may vary)


Silver - The Silver Group continues to expand our swimmers techincal skills and endurance threshold.  Coaches will  focus on teaching swimmers more advanced racing skills and stategies they can use to improve their competitive meet performances.  Swimmers in this group are beginning to strive for Florida Age Group (FLAG) Championship Time Standards and understand the committments that come along with these goals.  The Silver Group develops swimmers as they grow into a more competitive athletes and enhance their passion for swimming.

Ages - 10-13 years old

Minimum Requirements - Silver swimmers are expected to have a strong understanding of stroke techinque and various drill progressions.  Swimmers at this level should be able to complete 2/3 of the following test sets.  

(1) 10x100 Free on 2:00 (2) 16x50 IMO on 1:05 (3) 10x50 kick on 1:10 (each stroke with or without a board)

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Friday for 1 hour and 30 minutes and Saturday for 2 hours. Friday and Saturday practices vary based on the team's Meet Schedule.  Swimmers at this level understand practice attendance is important and should strive to attend at least 4 practices per week.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Dryland - Silver swimmers start to continue to develop to basic dryland skills and techniques.  Each practice will begin with 5-10 minutes of active movement.  

Meets - Swimmers at this level are expected to attend swim meets on a regular basis.  Mini-meets are no longer allowed.  Swimmers in this group should set a goal of attending at least 10 swim meets per year.

Gold - The Gold Group is the most competitive level of our Age Group program.  Coaches at this level focus on fostering an enviroment where hard work and a strong techincal focus provide swimmers with high performance results.  Swimmers in this group are expected to have Florida Age Group (FLAG) Championship Time Standards or be working toward these goals.  The Gold Group has the highest expectations for our Age Group level and swimmers be able to demonstrate the maturity and competitive abilities necessary to train at this level.  

Ages - 10-14 years old

Minimum Requirements - Gold swimmers are expected to have a high level understanding of stroke techinque and various drill progressions.  Meet performances are also evaluated before entry into the Gold Group.  Swimmers at this level should be able to complete all of the following test sets.  

(1) 12x100 Free on 1:30 (2) 20x50 IMO on 1:00 (3) 12x50 kick on 1:00 (each stroke with or without a board)

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Thursday for 1 hour and 30 minutes and Friday and Saturday for 2 hours. Friday and Saturday practices vary based on the team's Meet Schedule.  Swimmers at this level understand practice attendance is important and should strive to attend at least 5-6 practices per week.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Dryland - Gold swimmers should be able to handle advanced dryland expectations.  30 minutes of dryland is offered 2-3 times per week.  Each practice will begin with 5-10 minutes of active movement.  Coaches will inform swimmers which day tennis/athletic shoes will be needed.

Meets - Swimmers and families will work together to create a meet schedule that works best for their athlete.  Monthly meet participation is expected as well as attending each seasons Championship Meet.

Senior 1 - The Senior 1 Group is designed for older swimmers who are looking to develop their swimming skills and competitive nature.  Swimmers at this level might be newer to the sport of swimming or have a less competitive attitude about their participation in the sport.  Coaches design workouts in order to challenge athletes while also working to provide individual feedback to improve techincal skill development, stregnth and endurance.  The Senior 1 Group generally prepares swimmers to represent their high school during the FHSAA Swim Season as well as providing assistance to triathletes who are looking for more water time instruction.  

Ages -  13-18 years old

Minimum Requirements - Senior 1 swimmers should be able to correctly swim each of the four strokes and be able to challenge themselves to handle an instructional and challenging practice enviroment.  Swimmers should be able to handle 1/3 of the following sets.

(1) 8x100 Free on 1:45 (2) 12x50 IMO on 1:10 (3) 8x50 kick on 1:15 (each stroke with or without a board)

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Thursday for 1 hour and 30 minutes.  There is not a practice attendance minimum at this level.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Dryland - The Senior 1 Group does not have dryland during the summer season.  Dryland varies based on the time of the year.   

Meets - Swimmers at this level are not expected to participate USA Swimming Sanctioned Meets.  If swimmers are interested in meet participating they must have Coach pre-approval.

Senior 2 - The Senior 2 Group is designated for our most high performing and dedicated swimmers in the in our Senior level.  Coaches work with swimmers indivudally to create a program that will help them to acheive State and National level time standards and represent our program at the highest levels of competitive swimming.  Swimmers and families understand the dedication and commitment required to attain these goals.  Performance standards are highly considered before admission into the group.

Ages - 13-18 years old

Minimum Requirements - Senior 2 swimmers should have the ability to demonstrate high level technical efforts as well as positive training work ethic geared toward making improvements on a day to day basis.  Swimmers in this group must be able to handle all of the following test sets.  

(1) 12x100 Free on 1:20 (2) 20x50 IMO on :50 (3) 16x50 kick on :55 (each stroke with or without a board)

Practices - Practices are offered Monday-Friday for 2 hours and Saturday for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Friday and Saturday practices vary based on the team's Meet Schedule.  Morning practice is also offered on Tuesday and Thursday for 1 hour and 15 minutes during the school year.  The summer schedule includes 2 workouts per day.    Swimmers at this level understand practice attendance is important and should strive to attend at least 6 practices per week.  Practice times vary depending on the time of the year.

Dryland - The Senior 2 Group offers dryland at least 3 times per week in a variety of formats.  The Coaching Staff will give specific dryland expectations for each swimmer.  

Meets - Swimmers and families will work together to create a meet schedule that works best for their athlete.  Monthly meet participation is expected as well as attending each seasons Championship Meet.
