Windermere Lakers Coaches

Alex Dehner

Coach Alex started his coaching career with ATAC in their adaptive lessons program. He represented ATAC on the national level, and was a States finalist and All-American for Chiles High. He then went on to compete at the University of Florida, where he trained to become an Olympic Trial qualifier in the 200 back and worked with the Gators as a volunteer assistant coach. There, he joined Gator Swim Club’s coaching staff, and served as interim head coach from 2016-2017 while completing his degree. Word traveled south, and he was asked to start what you see today: The Windermere Lakers.

Coach Alex is an ASCA Level IV coach and has put swimmers on the FL Zone team, Southern Zone Select Camp, Southern Zone Diversity Camp, National Diversity Camp, and National Jr Team.

Anna Dehner

Coach Anna grew up in Southern California, where she represented North Coast Aquatics (NCA), as a finalist at Junior and Senior Nationals from 2005-2008. She represented her birth country Estonia at the 2008 Olympic Games and 2009 World Championships. In 2008, she was ranked in the Top 50 in the world for the 400 IM. Her swimming career transitioned to the east coast, where she finished as a SEC (2009) and NCAA (2010) team champion with the Florida Gators, racing her way to Top 10 All-Time at UF in the 200 backstroke.

Her background in coaching developed through teaching lessons, coaching at the UF Swim Camp, and working on deck with the UF team during graduate school for occupational therapy. She gained biomechanical expertise and developed a holistic view of the "whole person/whole athlete" from her OT work, and now brings that on deck. Anna's purpose is fostering the development of technique and endurance for the 12 & Under Lakers, as well as supporting the Senior group as they gain elite level mental skills.

Kyle Goller

Coach Kyle grew up in Tallahassee, as a breaststroker on ATAC. He swam collegiately at Florida Southern, and then Thomasville University. He started his coaching career at ATAC, and lessons at Hosford Swim School. While in Tallahassee, he coached high school for Lincoln High, and for Chiles High, where the girls won States.

Coach Kyle joined us in 2018, and took on the role of our Head Age Group Coach, and Assistant Senior Coach. He's a breaststroke specialist at the Jr National level and a ASCA Level IV Coach. He has put swimmers on the FL Zone team, Southern Zone Select Camp, Winter Juniors, Futures, and in the Southern Zone Diversity Camp. And on top of all of these fantastic accomplishments with our Lakers, he also coaches at the Windermere High where they won the 4x50 medley relay at States!

Rachel Barkowitz

Rachel's love of swimming started on her local club team in Boston, when expectations were exceeded just by making it across the pool. After a brief hiatus into the world of theatre, Rachel swam for her high school varsity team in Massachusetts. She then spent three years swimming at Sarah Lawrence College before transferring to Columbia University. After graduating, Rachel followed her family to Windermere. She is incredibly grateful to help coach and develop the next generation of swimmers.
