The YMCA of First Florida's Flyers offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the YMCA of First Florida's Flyers to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Please come Thursday or Friday at 4:00 to tryout, contact our coaches to speak with them directly, or Click Here to send us an email request for more information.

Training Groups:

FLYERS Intermediate:

Level 1: The base level group for the Flyers emphasizes continued stroke development, race pace training and mental skills as part of the training.

Level 2: Swimmers in this group must have a working knowledge of goal setting, interval training and technique progressions. The goal of this group is continued improvement through enhanced development of endurance training and stroke mechanics.

Practice Monday thru Friday 4:00-5:30 pm, must attend a minimum of 3 practices a week, unless a child participates in other sports and coaches are notified of their conflicting practice times.

FLYERS Advanced:

Level 3: This group is for the older and more experienced athletes. Swimmers will be pushed to excel. They will need to focus daily on making intervals at practice, knowing their splits, and set short-term and long-term goals for the season.

Level 4: Same expectations as level 3, but swimmers are expected to be team leaders. Athletes should lead as an example, encourage their teammates, and always have a positive attitude. This level's goals is to be top ten in the nation, reach junior and senior national cuts, and eventually Olympic Trial cuts.

Practice Monday thru Thursday 4:30-7:00 pm, Friday 4:30-6:30 pm. Athletes need to commit to 5 practices a week (exceptions for high school season and multi sport athletes). Swimmers must be prepared for dryland every day in case of storms.

Attend one USA meet a month to track progress and improvement.

Swimmers will be evaluated constantly and moved to appropriate groups as progression and development advances. A swimmer moving groups during the season will be a rare occurrence.
