GTSA Completes Most Successful FLAGs in Years

Over the past decade, GTSA has been a very successful program, but during that time one thing had eluded the program: a FLAG Champion!  That all changed this past weekend in Gainesville, FL at the 2014 Long Course Florida Age Group Championships (FLAGs).  GTSA was represented by six swimmers at the meet, where only the best 14&under swimmers in our state compete.  William Aneiros, Gabby Donahue, Regan Flynn, Jayson Reddick, Jackson Smith, and Morgan Tankersley raced over four days at The University of Florida.  When the marathon meet finished, GTSA had amassed 152 points, which was good enough for 28th place!

The finals at this year FLAGs only included the top 8 swimmers in each age, which is a change from last year.   To make it back to finals is a very impressive accomplishment in such a great swimming state like ours. Reagan Flynn qualified for finals in the 50 Backstroke, finishing 8th.  Gabby Donahue qualified for finals in five of her events, which included two FLAG Championships,  one in the 50 Backstroke  and  the second in the 50 Freestyle.  Morgan Tankersley made finals six times, never finishing worst than 3rd. She also took first place in the 800 Freestyle,  making her the FLAG Champion in that event!  All of those top three finishes helped Morgan to earn the High Point Award for 14-year old girls.  Our entire group of swimmers had 90% best times at the meet!

Overall, this was the most successful FLAGs in recent history for GTSA.  Please make sure to congratulate all the swimmers who represented your team so well at this years meet next time you see them on deck. I hope all of our 14&under swimmers are striving to be a part of the next FLAGs in March 2015!
