New GTSA, New Season, New Heights!!

This past weekend the "new" GTSA made its meet debut at the St. Pete Aquatics' Total Team Wares Invitational.  112 swimmers represented GTSA at the two and a half day meet, and it didn't take long for their presence to be felt.  When the meet came to an end, GTSA had accumulated 2,270.5 points, which was good for a 2nd place finish.

The 2nd place finish was a complete team effort.  54 different GTSA swimmers contributed points in individual races, with many more doing so on relays.  11 of those swimmers finished top 10 in their age group's high point standings, including 3 swimmers who were named high point champion (Gabby Donahue 11-12 Girls, Morgan Tankersley Senior Girls, & Tyler Heath Senior Men).  GTSA swimmers were not only accumulating points, but also a lot of best times.  Over 70% of the time one of our swimmers hit the pool it was a best time.

When the coaches were asked their highlights from the meet, they responded with many different moments.  The first was seeing all the new GTSA suits and caps around the deck.  It was also fun seeing our swimmers competing in events that may have taken them outside their comfort zone.  Coach Ryan recalls one particular heat of the 100 Butterfly.  In that heat, the 4 GTSA swimmers finished 1st-4th dropping an average of 15 seconds from their best times!

GTSA will return to the pool at the 2014 NIKE Swim Classic, October 10-12th at Bobby Hicks Pool.  This is not only a home meet for us, but one of the most fun meets we attend all year.  Who wouldn't want to race for a pumpkin?!?!  Sign-ups are due October 1st, we encourage all GTSA swimmers to participate!
