Zones and Futures recap

Jim McGinnis

Tidal Wave was represented by four swimmers at elite competitions last week.  They performed well, highlighted by Allie Byerly’s new team record in the 13-14 girls 200 fly (2:24.86)!  Allie, Jarrett Watkins, and Bennett Baer swam at the Southern Zones, while Isabella Klinefelter swam at the Southern Futures meet.  Coach Andy was on the Zone staff, while Coach Gene traveled to Futures.  Here are their thoughts:

The hottest week in Mississippi in a decade greeted our 3 TWS swimmers for the Southern Zone Championships in Tupelo.  Bennett Baer, Allie Byerly and Jarrett Watkins qualified for this Georgia All Star team that took the top 8 swimmers, both boys and girls in 3 Age Groups.  All 3 stepped up and raised the standard of Tidal Wave excellence in this 5 day competition. Congratulations to Allie, Bennett and Jarrett!

-Andrew Baer

Isabella Kleinfelter performed well at her first exposure to a National level competition participating in the 50 Free, 100 Free and 100 Butterfly. She swam best preliminary times in 2 out of 3 events and was less than a second away from earning a second swim in Finals (those events averaged 180 participants). This experience should help her excel when next she attends a national level meet.

After enjoying incredible results at the state age group championships, our swimmers still recorded some best times, resulting in some new Tidal Wave All-Time Top 10 times.  Here is a full list of those swims:

13-14:  Allie Byerly:  200 fly-1st (2:24.86), Bennett Baer:  100 free-2nd (56.39), 400 free-2nd (4:17.41); Jarrett Watkins:  200 fly-7th (2:23.33).

Great job swimmers!
