7 Things you need to know:

Graduations, Appointments and Awards

At the DCS 2019 Annual Awards banquet, we recognized the consistent hard work and achievements of our swimmers. We also celebrated our 7 high school seniors who graduate this month. We are so proud! Two will be swimming in college: Danielle Melilli (Queens University) and Jay Strong (West Virginia Tech). Kudos to Jacob Gurley for his appointment to the United States Military Academy (West Point)! Trent Griffin will study at Georgia Southern (and may play water polo!), Malique Brinson is off to Kennesaw State University, Treston Ellis has his sights on the US Coast Guard, and Zach Martin will be moving to Tennessee to determine his next steps.

Congrats to our coaching staff as well! Coach Nicole will receive her BS in Speech Pathology this month from UWG (to compliment her BA in Journalism from UGA). And Coach Jarrod has been named Head Coach of the USA Swimming Eastern Zone Diversity Select Camp to be held four days in June!

Just WOW!

Swim-a-Thon 2019
Our combined swimming distance totals placed us south of St Louis, MO.  We still have 500 miles to swim to reach our goal of Omaha by next summer and more funds to purchase our much-needed timing system. We can do it! Please send in all pledges by May 15th. We will then tabulate category winners and deliver prizes for outstanding fundraising and swim efforts. Thank you for your support of our club!

DCS Swim Camp
Registration for Session 2 of the DCS Competitive Swim Camp will close on May 15th. This 4-day daytime camp will focus on technique and conditioning, dryland, and discussion that will inspire your swimmer’s dreams and goals. Session 2 will be held June 24-27th. Click on the “DCS Competitive Swim Camp” button on our home page to register.

Swim Clinics and Swim Meets — on the DCS website
Reserve your spot for intensive training offered several weekends this summer! Check out the website for what is scheduled.  We will have four big long course meets this season. Just select “attend” or “decline” and let us know which days you’d like to compete. The coaches will choose your swimmer’s events.

Friendly Reminder to Activate Messaging on your DCS account
**Action Required** Summer thunderstorms can wreck havoc with the best made practice plans. Assume that practice will be held unless you are advised otherwise. However, to give you a timely heads up in case of an unforeseen practice cancellation/change or pool closure, we encourage all families to create a verified cell number to receive time critical info. Just go to the DCS website, login to your account, add your SMS, hit “save”, click on “verify SMS” then follow the prompts. We use this function with great discretion. No spam texts. Thank you!

Summer practice schedule begins Monday, June 3
The 2019 summer training schedule is posted at the pool on our giant blue metal equipment locker and will be posted on the website soon. If you plan to take a break, please remember that we require 30 days notice in order to suspend your account.

Just keep swimming! Consistency is key to continued progress in the water! Summer is short and time with family and rest is tantamount. With this in mind, DCS will enjoy a swim break from July 27 – August 10. However, the more consistently your athlete trains this summer, the faster and better prepared he/she will be for the Fall. Please come to practice early and often. We are a year-round team!

Welcome New Members

We are delighted that you've joined our team! In the fall, we will hold an annual parents' meeting to outline the upcoming season. However, if you have questions now, please ask! DCS Board Members, Coaches and veteran parents at the pool will guide you to the correct answers. The DCS website is the info hub of our team but we also have a bulletin board at the pool, a sandwich board on deck with important upcoming items as well as targeted email updates.

And always, if you encounter a problem with your personal account, please let Maria (DCS Admin) or Cheryl (DCS Treasurer) know at douglascountystingrays@gmail.com so they can troubleshoot.
