Gulf Swimming athletes to Attend U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming

U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming will include 1,425* of America’s fastest swimmers

 

[Houston, TX] – Nine athletes representing seven Houston-area USA Swimming clubs to attend the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming in Omaha, Neb. These athletes are set to attend Trials in either Wave 1 (June 4-7, 2021) or Wave 2 (June 13-20, 2021).  Traditionally held every four years, the Olympic Trials is the largest and most prestigious swimming event in the U.S.

“We are extremely proud to have these athletes representing Gulf Swimming and the City of Houston at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming event,” Executive Director, Julie Bachman said. “This honor reflects the culmination of the hard work they have put into their training and an incredible amount of persistence and focus to achieve their goals despite the pandemic. Because of that hard work and commitment, these athletes can say they are one of the fastest swimmers in the country.”

Description of the two “Waves”:


Wave II

The nation’s top swimmers will compete at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming in June 2021 in the quest to become a member of the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team. The eight-day Trials competition serves as the sole qualifier for pool swimmers on the U.S. Olympic Team for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2021. Athletes will earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team roster at each of the eight finals sessions.

Wave I

Qualified U.S. swimmers will compete at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming in June 2021 in a wildcard bid to reach Wave II of the event and race to become a member of the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team. The four-day Trials competition will feature many of the country’s rising talent, with the top two swimmers of every event moving to Wave II.

The event will be broadcast across live across NBC, NBCSN, the Olympic Channel and usaswimming.org.

Athletes successfully qualified for this event by swimming fast and reaching impressive time standards. As of May 4th, a total of 638 female and 745 male athletes had qualified across both waves.
