2023 PEAK HOT TAMALES SUMMER LEAGUE TEAM

Pearland Aquatics (PEAK) is excited to share that we will again be hosting the Hot Tamales summer team; the main goal of this program is to improve stroke technique and offer a positive atmosphere for swimmers to grow and thrive. Swimmers will be trained by USA Swimming certified coaches. Practices will concentrate on stroke development for each of the four competitive strokes. There will be three swim meet opportunities that will help coaches gauge swimmer improvement.

The Hot Tamales will begin their 2023 season on Tuesday, May 30th and finish the season on Saturday, July 22nd.

Tryouts:

Swimmers new to PEAK must register online for a tryout and successfully complete the tryout with coach approval before being eligible to register for the summer team. Tryouts will take place on Friday, April 14^th and Saturday, April 15^th.  There are limited tryout spots available.

Tryout Requirements: Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards backstroke and freestyle without assistance. Tryout results will be at the coach's discretion.

Minimum age: 6 years old as of June 1, 2023.

Swimmers who do not need to tryout before registering are:

• Current members of Pearland Aquatics enrolled in the Spring Clinic program.
• Swimmers who participated prior in PEAK Tech Fit, Clinic, or on year-round team.
• Swimmers who were team members with Hot Tamales during a prior summer.
• Swimmers who had a successful tryout out during 2022 but did not get a space on the team.

Registration/Cost:

Hot Tamales registration opens on Monday, April 17^th at 9:00 AM. New swimmers that have never swam with PEAK before must have completed a tryout and have coach approval before registering.  Spots on our summer team are limited to 48 spots for the 3x/week group and 48 spots for the 2x/week group swimmers, and registration is first come, first serve. 

Registration fee for the 3x/week group is $275; registration for the 2x/week group is $185. In addition to the registration fee, swimmers will also be charged $30 by USA Swimming for a Flex Membership.  (Information on how to register with USA Swimming will be sent following registration.)  There are no multi-swimmer discounts.

Practice Schedule:

The Hot Tamales summer season begins on Tuesday, May 30th and ends on Saturday, July 22. 

Practices for the 3x/week group take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM and on Saturdays from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM.

Practices for the 2x/week group take place on Tuesdays and Thursday from 7:30-8:30 PM.

Practices will be held at the Pearland Natatorium.  Swimmers  do not have to attend every scheduled practice. This program does not have any attendance requirements.

Meet Dates:

Three introductory meets will be held on the following dates:

June 23^rd hosted by North Channel Aquatics at Galena Park ISD Natatorium ($10 entry fee)

July 7^th hosted by Pearland Aquatics at the Pearland Natatorium

July 21^st hosted by Sharks at Friendswood Natatorium ($10 entry fee)

Equipment:

For the first practice swimmers will need to have SPEEDO competitive style goggles, a SPEEDO Team Kickboard (Junior Size of this kickboard), SPEEDO Trialon swim fins, and SPEEDO Bullethead snorkel and may be found at a swim shop or ordered online at retailers such as www.swimoutlet.com/pearlandaquatics
