Middle School Swimming and Diving Season

Stephanie Abshire

Humble ISD does not have middle school swimming & diving…

But ESA does!

Eagle Swimming & Diving Associations, the USA/AAU affiliated swimming & diving teams serving the greater Atascocita area, are initiating a middle school season for the feeder schools to Atascocita & Summer Creek High Schools.

How it will work:

  • Middle school athletes already swimming ESA would only need to let us know they intend to participate.
  • New athletes will need to register with ESA and USA swimming at the Seasonal Membership (covers insurance).
    • Please be aware, the SWIM TEAM IS NOT A LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM.  Though we will do a lot of stroke/technique instruction, athletes must already know how to swim or they will be cut.
  • Athletes will be assessed as to which ESA training group they would attend and begin training with ESA athletes on March 6 (not including Spring Break).
  • There will be three evening round-robin meets (March 31, April 6 & 14) and one championship meet (April 28) at Atascocita High School.
  • Diving competitions will take place on the same nights, but at Humble High School.

Parent Informational Meeting        Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 pm     Atascocita HS Natatorium

Registration

New athletes will need to first register with ESA (ESA registration fee waived); then register on-line with USA swimming (seasonal registration) and select ESA as their team.  (USA Registration covers us with liability insurance.) Our team treasurer will be on site at our parent meeting (March 1) to help answer questions.

New Athlete Assessment

As stated above, this is not a “learn to swim” league.  Athletes must demonstrate that they are water safe and know how to swim.  Coaches will assess athletes (March 6 & 7 at 6:45 pm at AHS), and assign them to one of ESA’s existing training groups.  Assessments will take about 10 min / athlete.  New athletes will begin practicing on March 8 with their assigned group.  There will be no practices over Spring Break.

Practice / Meet Participation

There is not an attendance requirement, per say, but if athletes are to improve, they are encouraged to attend as many practices & competitions as possible.  Meet will run with high school rules.  Athletes will be allowed to compete in 4 events per meet; 2 individual events and 2 relays (assigned by coaches).  Meets will run on Friday evenings during the Age Group 4 practice times (see schedule below).

Meet Schedule

(Meets will not be sanctioned by USA Swimming as this league is internal to ESA and not part of any organized league.)

Contact

This is an incredibly busy time of year with both high school & club championships meets going on and I may not be quick to respond to emails.  Thus, in lieu of emails, please plan to attend the parent meeting on March 1 at 7:00 pm at AHS natatorium (swimming pool).  Nonetheless – coachpink@eagleswimmingassociation.com.
