Stellar showing at Junior Nationals

Philip Franke

In early December, Ava Whitaker traveled down to the University of Texas to represent Ambush and compete against the top 18 and younger swimmers in the nation. Here is a recap of her amazing weekend.

Day 1:

Ava started off the meet competing in the 200 yard IM, she swam a time of 2:04.57 to set her first team record of the meet. Shortly after her IM she swam a time trial 50 yard freestyle to post a time of 23.90, a personal best by .42 seconds and another Ambush Team Record.

Day 2:

On day 2 of the swim meet Ava competed in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke. In her prelims 100 butterfly she swam a time of 53.32 to make her the 3rd seed going into the finals and setting another team record. During her 100 yard backstoke Ava swam a time of 56.75 to achieve a best time by .19 seconds and set her 4th team record of the meet. During the finals session, Ava proceeded to improve on her prelims time and her personal best time. She swam a stellar time of 52.68 to achieve a PB by .35 seconds, get herself a 4th place medal, and break the team record that she had set earlier that morning.

Day 3:

On the last day of competition Ava had her last event in the 200 yard butterfly. Ava swam an amazing and very exciting prelims race where she lead from the first 25 yards and finished over 2 body lengths ahead of the field to post a time of 1:57.04. This time was a PB by .36 seconds, giving her the 5th seed heading into finals, and setting her 5th Ambush Team Record. During finals Ava faced 2 former Olympians (Bella Sims and Katie Grimes) and finished her meet off with an 8th place finish and a time of 1:58.41.

Ambush is very proud of Ava's commitment and accomplishments since joining our team. We hope that she continues to improve as she finishes up her highschool and club career before moving to Bloomington, Indiana to compete as a Hoosier.
