1. Register and select two classes for your swimmer(s) by clicking HERE
2. After successful registration you will redirected to TeamUnify and fill out basic information to be included on the email list concerning essential team notifications.

About: Our Learn to Swim program is based on stroke development. Houston Hydra offers a tailored service for your child starting at age 4+. The process consists of two, thirty-minute lessons per week with a trained instructor. Swimmers will learn floating, kicking, streamline, freestyle, and backstroke. If desired, once they have mastered these two strokes, the instructor will have your swimmer evaluated for the next group to learn breaststroke and butterfly, flip turns, dives and more.

 

Location: Currently lessons take place at Cy-Ranch High School Aquatic Center located on the left side of the school. (10700 Fry Rd, Cypress, TX 77433).

Note: Location is subject to change based on CFISD Swimming, Diving and Water Polo schedule.

 

 

Lessons: 

  • Semi-private (1 instructor, 2 swimmers)
  • Two lessons per week
  • 30 minutes per lesson
  • Offered Monday - Friday at 5:00 - 5:30, 5:35 - 6:05, 6:10 - 6:40, 6:45 - 7:15, 7:20 - 7:50

Pricing: 

  • Semiprivate lessons - $160 per month
  • Registration fee - $85 per swimmer

Is this a year-round program? Our season is from August 22, 2022 – July 28, 2023. There is a three week break in August before the start of the new season.

If I miss a lesson because of vacation, sickness, or other obligations, are there make-up lessons? No, the only time there are make-up lessons is when practice is canceled on Hydra’s behalf.

Will I be notified via email about pool changes? We only send pool change emails if the change is the day of. Otherwise, it is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to check the practice schedule at the start of each week. Please go to https://www.teamunify.com/team/guhydr/page/practice-scheudle and look at the “notes” section for any changes to the regular schedule.

Are there make up lessons for practice missed due to a holiday? No, we do not make up lessons due to holidays. We balance this out by only billing four weeks per month instead of billing five weeks during certain months with more weeks.

Who do I contact for an evaluation if I want to see what group my child belongs in? If they cannot swim Freestyle and Backstroke for the length of the pool without stopping, you will register them in Jackrabbit (link provided on Learn to Swim page). If they can swim free and back, you may contact [email protected] for an evaluation.

How will I know when it is time for my child to change groups? When the instructor feels your child is ready, they will notify a coach on deck for approval of group change. The instructors will then let you know if the coach has approved the group change. 

What do I do after my child has been evaluated for a group change? You will send an email to [email protected], we will notify you of next steps.

Do I get the entire thirty minutes if I show up late? No, the instructor will provide the lesson within the time frame you are scheduled.

Does my child need to be potty-trained? Yes, all swimmers must be potty trained without the need of a swim diaper.

Can I sit inside the natatorium and watch the lessons? No, our practices are closed to parents. Due to insurance purposes, only swimmers are allowed on deck. You may watch the lessons from any of the glass windows the Aquatic center offers. 

Can I bring my swimmer into the locker room to change? No, due to SafeSport policies, Adults are not allowed in locker rooms. There are bathrooms located in the front entrance of the natatorium.

Where to I drop my swimmer off? We request you drop your swimmers off at the back doors of the Aquatic Center. Our instructors will come to pick your swimmer up by the double doors near the Learn to Swim pool at the beginning of their lesson time.

What equipment does my child need? A comfortable swimsuit and goggles. Please tie your child’s hair back so it is not distracting or in the way when swimming. 

Will I be charged for the month of August? No, we completely clear all learn to swim accounts after the last day of practice.

Do I have to register my child in August if I recently registered in the last couple of months? Yes, you will have to re-register for the new season starting mid-August.
