USA Swimming and SSAN

What is USA Swimming?

USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. They are a 400,000-member service organization that promotes the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through teams, events and education. Click HERE for more information on USA Swimming.

What is a LSC?

The Local Swimming Committee (LSC) is the local level of USA Swimming. Each LSC is a separate entity, with each being an individual member of USA Swimming, although all act on behalf of USA Swimming on the local level. LSCs are the local administrative organization responsible for the registration, support, and governance of the USA Swimming member swim clubs in their designated region. Over 2800 swim clubs across the US are registered with USA Swimming through their respective LSCs.

What are Motivation Time Standards?

Motivational Time Standards and other swim meet standards can be found HERE on our Time Standards Page.

What is the difference between SSAN, Summer Tune-Up, my neighborhood summer league team, and masters swim?

  • Swim Streamline at Northampton is a USA Swimming sanctioned team that competes during the year (Sept-March, April-Aug) and focuses on a high level of technique and training to prepare the maturing swimmer for High School and College swimming.
  • Summer League Tune-Up is a program (February-April) designed for swimmers who have been out of the water since the previous summer and gives a head start on summer league participation. This group will join SSAN as seasonal athletes and get to experience SSAN during this 8-12 week period. Stay tuned for updates.
  • An NWAL Summer League program runs separately from a USA Swimming team. Sanctioned by the Northwest Aquatic League and designed for fun and enjoyment within the community.
  • Masters Swim Team is an adult fitness group with weekly workouts, high-quality instruction, and has a certified coaching staff. Members are 18+ years of age.
