SSAN Sending Holiday Spirit To Military Families In Need

SSAN Membership Admin

“For it is giving that we receive.” – St. Francis of Assisi

SSAN has “adopted” 4 military families in need of some holiday cheer this month with the help of the non-profit group Soldiers' Angels. Soldiers' Angels' mission is to provide aid, comfort, and resources to the military, veterans, and their families. What better way to say 'Thank You' to those that have served or still serving in our US military than by providing a little holiday magic for their children this year.

Each pool has been assigned a family (or two) to help this holiday season. This is not mandatory and does not go towards your volunteer hours, but we would love for you to help and donate if you are able.

Below are the Sign-ups for donations and a message from each family.

From the Porter Family: Thank you so much for this opportunity. My family is going through a hard time. I am currently in the HUD/VASH program and need a little help to bring a smile to my 13 year old sons face on Christmas Day. Thank you so much for considering my family.

From the Swinton family: My kids are typical teenagers of today. They love gaming, social media, EATING and sleeping. They have adjusted to virtual learning and I am not sure if returning to in-school learning is in the playing cards for anyone. Anything educational that will keep my kids competitively engaged is one of my goals for them.

From the Hollis Family: We are the Hollis family. My wife and I have 4 small children, 10 and under. 2020 has been excruciatingly difficult for us. I am unable to work due to combat injuries, and my wife has been unable to find work to help keep us afloat. We ended up losing our home in July. After finding another home to rent, we found ourselves selling our furniture just to afford bills, diapers, and milk. We have been in a battle trying to get food stamps, but in the meantime all of our groceries come from local food drives. Our family enjoys listening to music, playing outside, and having movie nights. We love listening to music while we cook dinner. We enjoy coming together at dinner time to talk about our day and what everyone learned in school. Our 10 year old daughter enjoys reading, our 8 year old son enjoys playing with his cars and action figures, our 5 year old daughter loves horses and playing outside, and our 2 year old daughter loves to dance and sing. My wife and I would love to be able to give the kids a decent Christmas, but it won't be possible without a little extra help. We hope you will choose to sponsor our family and help us give our children a wonderful Christmas this year. Thank you for your consideration! God bless you, and Merry Christmas.

From the Buffington Family: My family consists of myself, my wife, and three little one. This year, as with many, has been very difficult for us. My wife was laid off in April due to COVID-19 and her unemployment just ran out a couple weeks ago. She has been trying very hard to get a new job, but no luck yet. We are keeping our fingers crossed. I have been in school since Fall 2019, apart of a VA program. The only thing helping us at the moment is a loan I took out for bills. Our kids are very energetic and love to play and watch movies. We always enjoy the occasional cookie baking nights or camping out. My daughter is 10 and in 5th grade. She enjoys reading about dragons and now wolves. My oldest son is in preschool. He can't speak yet, but we are hoping soon he will. Although he has always been good at logic things, like Legos, for example. Thank you

Donations can be dropped off at Klein Oak Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week from 4:00-7:00pm OR during the SSAN Meet this weekend at the check-in table. Collections will end Sunday, December 6th.
