Ben Leach Head Age Group Coach
I have a passion to see people excel in athletics, the classroom and most importantly in life. Through swimming it is my hope to instill character, integrity and wisdom into the lives of the athletes I coach so that it may be life changing.
My experience includes 15 years of competitive swimming and 7 years of coaching. As a swimmer, I started on a summer league team at age 6, and progressed into club and high school swimming. I was then privileged to be accepted on the men's swim team at the University of the Incarnate Word and competed through my sophomore year. I then transferred to The University of Texas at Austin to finish my degree in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration.
I started coaching swimming when I was 18 for the local summer league team, in addition to providing private swim lessons. After doing that for 4 summers, I moved on to club coaching with Nitro Swimming in Austin. As the Lead Silver coach, I worked primarily with age group swimmers and assisted with the National Development group weekly. My most recent experience comes from coaching with Aggie Swim Club as an assistant coach for the Senior group for the past year.
I am excited to be apart of the South Shore Sails coaching staff and look forward to what the future holds here in League City.

Doug Reno Assistant Age Group Coach/Level 1 & 2
Ben Harlow Age Group Coach

Ben comes to us after an 18 year journey as Head Age Group Coach of the Phillips 66 Splash Club in Oklahoma, ready for a new and exciting journey with the Sails.

Honored to be a 5 time Age Group Coach of the year and 5 time High School/Regional Coach of the year award winner, Ben dedicates these awards to his swimmers for their dedication and effort!  He was also Head Coach and Assistant for Bartlesville High School teams, celebrating 5 State titles and as many runner up finishes.

Ben started his swimming journey at age 7 in the Y program and parlayed that into being able to swim and serve as captain for Augustana College, in Illinois, under the direction of Dave Thomas. He went on to Head Coaching jobs at the Kewanee YMCA, Quad City Swim Club, and Morrison Seahorses (all in Illinois), before landing in Oklahoma. Over 40 years of chlorine bliss!

Coach Ben is proud of the number of Individual State Championships, Regional/Zone/Sectional/Junior National swims, team records, and high school successes his teams experienced, but he is most proud of how the swimmers under his tutelage grew over the years as people! “They gave as leaders to make themselves and those around them get the most out of every challenge and opportunity put in front of them. A true dedication to who they are and what they are all about!”

He is happy to be in League City, where his mother and sister (with her family including his niece and nephew), reside. Family, faith, friends, and swimming are most important, but watching movies, TV, and attempting to golf are all enjoyable in his little bit of free time.
