The Sharks Summer Squad is our seasonal, summer swim team. The summer team runs May-August at the Magnolia Creek pool. 

The seasonal programs focus on FUN, FITNESS, and FUNDAMENTALS to swimmers 5yrs+.  To join one of our seasonal programs, swimmers need to complete 25 yards of free & back. 

NEW swimmers to one of the programs will need to complete a tryout prior to registering. Current Sharks swim school swimmers or previous seasonal program swimmers do not need to complete a tryout.

Sharks Summer Squad

The Summer Squad is back for the summer! The Summer Squad is a seasonal rec swim team for swimmers age 5 & older. Swimmers need to be able to swim 25 yards free & back to participate. Any level 2 or 3 Sharks Swim School graduate is qualified. 

As the program continues to grow, we've tweaked the groups to keep the skill consistent across groups and swimmers with their peers:

  • White group: swimmers ages 5-9 who are new to the summer squad. 8-9yrs with 1 or fewer years of summer squad experience 

  • Blue  group: swimmers ages 8 to 11 with 2 or more years of summer squad experience or swimmers 8-11 who participated in 9 & over swim fit group.

  • Black group: swimmers ages 11-18 with 2 or more years of summer squad experience of swimmers or swimmers that were in the 9 & O swim fit group

Cost: $285  (incl USA Swimming FLEX membership, t-shirt, latex cap, 2-3 swim meets) 

  1. There will be a couple of optional Saturday swim meets that Summer Squad swimmers can participate in. These meets will have an additional fee. 

  2. Swimmers with current FLEX memberships (either participated in Fall Squad '21, Swim Fit Oct 21-April 22, or any of the Spring Tune UP clinics) will receive a $20 discount.

Equipment 

  1. Each swimmer needs a pair of goggles. Wearing metallic or mirrored goggles is STRONGLY recommended. 

  2. Swimmers with long hair need to wear a cap. A latex Sharks cap is provided to each swimmer or they may wear a fun latex or silicone cap.

  3. Swimmers will be provided with a kickboard. You can bring your own board if you'd like.

  4. Competition swimsuits should be worn for practice. Girls wear a 1 piece suit, no tankinis.  No rashguards and jammers or a racing brief for boys are strongly suggested.

  5. Team suits are not required. The team suit is a black speedo suit with the Sharks badge on it. The Swim Shops of the Southwest will be onsite in May for a team outfitting day.

 

Volunteering / Service hours

There are no required service hours or minimum volunteer commitment for Summer Squad swimmers. The Summer Squad meets do need volunteers to run and all families are encouraged to help. 

 

Team Activities / Events

Each swimmer will receive a white shirt for our annual team tie-dye day. All materials for the tie-dye party will be provided. All Summer Squad swimmers are invited to participate in the Sharks water park day in June. 

 

Team Communication 

We use email as the main form of communication. The Summer Squad will be using a Remind group for last-minute practice changes, weather alerts, and reminders.

Saturday, July 23 Sharks Summer Champs at Friendswood HS - the champs meet will be a sanctioned swim meet this summer. Swimmers who would like to compete will have a separate $20 fee to participate in the meet. There are no qualifying times for the meet and all summer squad swimmers are encouraged to participate.
