Timothy Hill Head Coach

Coach Hill is a dedicated coach to his swimmers and enjoys the journey of helping swimmers grow and improve as people and athletes even more than the numerous athletic successes. He brings over 30+ years of remarkable coaching experience to the SHARKS Swim Club.  Known as a dedicated, hard working professional who is passionate about his swimmers and team, Coach Hill is highly respected and well thought of throughout the sport. Coach Hill comes to the SHARKS Swim Club after 4 years as Head Coach of the West Houston Aquatic Team (WHAT).  In his 4 years with WHAT, the team progressed remarkably.  The team placed consistently in the top 5 to 10 in the various local Gulf Championships and numerous swimmers achieved and scored at Sectionals, and achieved Junior National qualifying times. 

Coach Hill has coached successfully at all levels of swimming, from age group & high school to Sectionals, Junior & Senior Nationals, and the Olympics.  He had swimmers compete in NCAA’s, USA Swimming Nationals, Junior Nationals, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics and other Olympic Games since 1980.  He has also served as a member of several USA Swimming National Team coaching staffs.   An American Swim Coaches Association Level 5 Coach, the highest level, Coach Tim has coached numerous world ranked swimmers, USA Swimming National Champions, and NCAA Champions, including the first woman under 1:00 in 100 Breaststroke, a US Open record. 

Prior to coaching at WHAT, Coach Hill led the USA Swimming Piranhas Swim Team, a Silver Medal Club in California. The senior program had athletes compete in the Olympic Games, World Championships, ranked in the top 50 in the world, USA Swimming National Championships (a.k.a. Senior Nationals), and Junior Nationals.  Before coaching in California, Coach Hill served 5 years as the Head Coach of First Colony Swim Team in Sugar Land, TX where he had an Olympic Trial swimmer, National Championship qualifiers and Junior National scorers. His swimmers consistently were Individual State Champions, achieved a National Record, won events at Sectionals, and he had teams in the Top 5 to 2nd place at Texas Age Group Championships.   

The first 20 years of Coach Hill's career were spent at Arizona State University and Southern Illinois University where he served as the Head Coach of the Women's Swim Team.  His teams were usually in the Top 10 and placed  as high as 3rd at Nationals. Coach of 135 All-Americans, 52 Academic All-Americans, Coach Hill was also Illinois Collegiate Coach of the year, 1981-1984, 1995 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, NCAA Top 3 coach of the year. His Saluki Swim Club placed Top 10 at USA Swimming Nationals.

Coach Tim is a former runner/triathlete, who loves the outdoors, snow/water skiing, music/drum corp and more. His wife, Shayla, is a Special Education teacher and they have two daughters, Ailish & 
Spencer.  Spencer has two sons ages 3 & 1.  During Coach Hill’s first position out of college, he created the Sarasota Y Sharks in FL, where he was the aquatic director, head coach and head high school coach, and he is excited to return to ‘Shark territory’.

 

Erik Andrews Head Age Group Coach

Coach Erik begins his 4th year with the Sharks. During his time coaching at the Sharks the team has broken all 9-10 team records & all but 2 of the 11-12 team records. Prior to coaching with the Sharks he has spent the last 7 years coaching in the Gulf with both the Cypress-Fairbanks and First Colony swim teams.  While coaching in the Gulf Erik as produced NSCA Jr Nat’l Qualifiers, NASA Jr Nat’l Finalists as well as Sectional Finalists and TAGS Champions. He has also been on a coaching staff for 4 Zone teams, three from his home state of Minnesota and one California team which competed in the inaugural North American Challenge Cup for Southern California which competed against a team from Mexico and Canada.

Coach Erik holds ASCA Level 3 Certification and is a 2005 graduate of University of Wisconsin-Superior with a degree in Elementary Education.  He completed all coursework in 2012 for a Masters in Physical-Education at the University of Houston and was awarded most outstanding graduate student of the year 2012 for Masters of Physical-Education in the Health and Human Performance Department.  In his spare time he enjoys playing a round of golf, reading books and relaxing with his girlfriend and their Chihuahua’s Roo & Loki. 

Kate Zabler Senior / Exploratory Group Coach

Coach Kate is in her 2nd year coaching with the Sharks Swim Club. Coach Kate has been coaching for 10+ years and has experience with multiple levels from learn to swim to Olympic Trials qualifiers.  Prior to coaching at the Sharks, Coach was the Head Age Group Coach & Interim Head Coach for the Space City Aquatic Team. Coach Kate coached in Singapore and India before coming to Texas.  

Coach Kate grew up a competitive swimmer in Kansas City and competed in college for Stony Brook University. She enjoys sharing her love of swimming and helping swimmer achieve their goals and reach outside their comfort zone. She is active in Gulf Swimming; helping organize the annual coaches clinic & helping coach Gulf Athletes at the NACC meet.

In her free time, Coach Kate enjoys traveling with her husband, Sachin, and son, Andrew, and gardening.

Dacia Moore Discovery Groups Lead Coach

Coach Dacia  is now beginning her 3rd year with Sharks.  She taught swim lessons for the past 7 years and is super excited to be coaching Developmental and younger swimmers. Coach Dacia has a dual Masters in Sports Fitness and Sport Management.  When she is not on the pool deck, she can be found coaching softball with a local select team.  Coach Dacia and her husband have four children and 2 German Shorthaired Pointers! 

Louis Suta Pre-Senior Coach

Coach Lou Suta- has been passionate about all phases of swimming since his youth, into his college years, professional career and coaching profession. Coach Suta has thirty plus years of experience in USA coaching, teaching, YMCA programming, diving, swim schools, and summer league swimming.
He is well qualified, as a strong teacher and Coach Tim is confident he will be a great asset to our Shark program. Experience coaching several USS/YMCA teams(Virgina) for all groups, all ages, all levels, Novice to Senior. Owned and operated a Swim America swim school employing and training staff. Licensed Swim America Program Director
Level 3 ASCA certified Swim Coach. Physical Education BS Degree from James Madison University
Certified Pool Operator
Qualified swimmers for NCSA Junior Nationals and YMCA Nationals.

Coach Suta has taught as well in a grades 4th thru High school as well as Special education.
His primary position is to be coach Pre-senior (lead coach) and assist where needed with other groups and have some involvement with Fall & Summer squads which are seasonal programs.

Melissa Rhodes Discovery Groups Assistant Coach

Coach Melissa is in her first year with the Sharks Swim Club.    She began her swimming endeavors in .Junior High School.    Coach Melissa swam competitively in High School, College and U.S. Masters after college.    Now with her young children, she is ready to get back in the water. coaching.    When Coach Melissa is on dry land, she enjoys her time with her husband, son & daughter, boxer, vizla, tabby, beta and bearded dragon

Jarod Hillegeist Fall Squad & Assistant Coach

Coach Jarod is in his first year as a Sharks coach. He began swimming on a summer team at age 7. His desire to swim year round prompted him to join Sharks at the age of 13. He swam competitively for the next 6 years and was also a volunteer coach.  During his senior year with Sharks he was the Gulf Swimming Athlete Rep for the team. During his off time he enjoys playing basketball and working out. 

David Harris Coach

Coach David loves to work with young people as a coach and swim instructor  David has been an assistant coach for the League City Baracudas and the League City Y over the past three years. He has worked as a swim instructor for grade school through retirement level swimmershas been in the water as a member of several swim teams since he was 5 years old. Though he was good in a variety of sports, Coach David chose and excelled in swimming throughout his teenage years where he competed in both summer swim league and in year round swimming and was captain of his high school team. Currently, Coach David is in his third year as a Galveston Island Beach Patrol Lifeguard and attending Texas A&M University at Galveston in Ocean and Coastal Structures Engineering.
