This past weekend, 16 10 and under swimmers headed down to Albany to compete in the 10&U State Championships. The team came away with several new personal bests and some high places at state.

Among other impressive accomplishments, there were 5 swimmers that placed in the top 3 in the state in one or more events. Those athletes were Avery Leach, Nico Lee, Daphne Maruki, Ethan Sommers and Claire Wang. The 10&U Boys also had two relays that placed third in the state and the 8&U Girls took home one gold and one silver for their relays. Individually, Daphne Maruki took home the gold in the 50 m breaststroke and Nico Lee was a 3 time state champion, winning the 50 m back, 50 m fly and 100 m fly.

The 8&U Girls 200 Medley Relay comprised of Daphne Maruki, Senuri Hewage, Claire Wang and Lola Bernhardt was not only the fastest in the state, but also set a new team record. They lowered the previous record by a whopping 23 seconds with a time of 3:25.61. The same group of girls also set a new team record in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 3:07.51.

There were also a handful of new individual team records that fell over the course of the weekend. Nico Lee lowered his own team record in the 100 back to a 1:19.46 becoming the first ever 10&U on the HEAT to go under 1:20. He also broke the 50 back record by almost a second with a time of 36.41. Avery Leach lowered her own team record in the 50 fly with a new personal best of 35.40. That time smashed her previous record by almost 2 seconds.

Congratulations to everyone who competed over the past weekend. It was a fun and exciting event complete with good times and great swims.

Thanks also to the parents and volunteers that made this event a possibility. Parents, your time and support mean the world to your young athletes. Without you, none of this is possible!
