This past Saturday, HPA, and Kamehameha gathered to compete in an "open" competition. The schools also invited ASC senior group swimmers (must be in high school) the opportunity to compete.  Sadie, Menolly, Tavner, and Ari took up the offer and joined in on the excitement. ASC Sr. Group swimmers on HPA's team are Kaden Parker, Tadeas Neliba, Johana Dubova, Liu, Lingqi, Lee, Shang-Chun, Musashi Wahl, Yuya Sonada, Kei Shimamura, Sight Takahashi, Kouske Soler, Lucas Wisdom, Sean Weyrick, Lucas Duba, and Kekai Haines. You can watch the YouTube taping of the event HEREThe same invitation is extended to all ASC senior group swimmers (who are also enrolled in high school) this weekend at Kamehameha, February 27 (10:30 warm-up, 11:30 start), and on March 6, at HPA, (9 am warm-up, 10 am start).  Senior group swimmers need to confirm with Coach Mark by Tuesday if they will compete. ALSO NOTEWORTHY- at the meet, Korrie Tengan, who comes over from the Hilo side to practice with the ASC senior group, swam the 200 IM at the meet and set a NEW POOL RECORD, taking down a 2001 mark by Jill Ono of Iolani School. Congrats to Korrie!

Tadeas Neliba - Commits to Salem International University

  • Tadeas Neliba, an HPA senior and member of the ASC senior group, has committed to swim next year at Salem International University, Salem, West Virginia.  We are proud of Tadeas for taking the leap into college competition. Tadeas stated that the school is a great fit for his academic studies and goals in the pool. Tadeas was voted Co-Captain of the HPA team, along with fellow ASC senior group swimmer, Kaden Parker. Tadeas is shown in the lead photo for this news page.

ASC - BIS Swimming Meet - March 13, 2021

ASC has gained approval from Hawaiian Swimming to host a  Big Island Swimming/USA Swimming sanctioned swimming meet, March 13, 2021. The request to host the meet at the HPA pool was also approved by the school's safety committee. The competition will have a few sessions so that the pool deck has a limited number of competitors on deck (50-60), which similar in number to our ASC intrasquad meets and the meet this past weekend with HPA/Kamehameha and ASC senior group members.

More details will come forth. What we do know is:

  • A limit on the number of competitors on the pool deck during a session (50).
  • Parents will drop off swimmers and exit the campus.
  • Coaches will be waiting in the grass areas near the drop-off area for athletes to gather, symptom & thermal check, before entering their assigned seating area as a group.
  • Swimmer pickup will be at assigned spots. Swimmers will be waiting in their assigned area with their coach on the grass.
  • Each session could take as little as two hours (for planning purposes for drop off/pick up).
  • No spectators/parents may be on campus to watch.
  • Video link provided for families to watch from off-campus.
  • Limited officials, Auto and semi-auto timing only.
  • No concession or hospitality.
  • Opportunities for a few ASC guardians/parents who can assist with traffic flow, safety...
  • MORE INFO COMING :)

Team Equipment with TYR

  • ASC has entered an agreement with TYR whereas all new purchases of suits and equipment are through TYR. In exchange, ASC has this 25% discount code Academy25 to be used on TYR.com. TYR will be able to track ASC purchases and when we hit benchmarks in sales, will result in additional bonuses for the team. Independent of purchases, ASC will receive some coaching attire, new banners and for those swimmers who make Senior Sectionals, Futures, Jr' Nationals, or USA Senior Nationals, they will be outfitted by TYR.
  • Girl's Suit: Please purchase the PHOENIX WOMEN'S SPLICE DIAMOND FIT in navy/white or GIRLS smaller sizes in navy/white.
  • Boy's Suit: Please purchase the MEN'S PHOENIX JAMMER TYR BOYS PHOENIX JAMMER or the TYR BOYS PHOENIX RACER in navy/white.
  • Goggles - Your choices but recommended are three different styles for beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of competition and training. CLICK HERE FOR THE RECOMMENDATIONS. All TYR Goggles are available to view here.
  • Note:  12/under swimmers are not permitted to wear technical suits (taped seems) I do not want 13 and over swimmers racing in them (tech suits) until there are championship or off-island meets available. These suits will be great for team pride and performance in practice and non-championship meets. We are going with the Navy/White colors for our suits and we will be offering a group order at the beginning of each month. If your swimmer is not in need of one now, we ask that when they do need one, you buy our team suit on the TYR site, if possible.

All for now,

Stay safe!

Coach Mark
