SQUADS

Novice/Intermediate

The novice/intermediate squad is for new swimmers ages 10 & under.   At the novice level, the young athlete is introduced to the sport of competitive swimming. The primary objective of the novice program is to teach the swimmer the four basic competitive strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Novice swimmers also learn and practice starts, turns, drills, and games to develop additional skills needed for competition.

Training Schedule:  Novice/Intermediate swimmers have workouts from T-F.

Meet Participation: Participation in county meets and invitational meets is optional.

Junior I

The Junior I swimmer can perform the four competitive swim strokes and is ready to learn more sophisticated techniques. At this level, advanced drills are implemented, starts and turns are emphasized, and interval training is introduced.

Training Schedule:  M - F workouts are available.  A set schedule is encouraged.

Meet Participation:  Participation in county meets and invitational meets is encouraged.

Junior II

The Junior II program is designed for young athletes at least nine years of age who have decided they are ready for a commitment to the sport of swimming. Competitive training, in its true sense, begins at this level; stroke techniques are refined continuously.

Training Schedule: Junior II swimmers will have workouts from M-F.

Meet Participation: Participation in county meets, invitationals and championship meets is encouraged.

Senior Prep

The senior prep program moves swimmers toward more rigorous training - conditioning in anticipation of senior/high school swim team participation. It is designed for athletes who are between 13 and 15 years of age and who meet specified time requirements.

Training Schedule:  Monday through Friday.

Meet Participation: Participation in dual meets, invitationals and championship meets is encouraged.

Senior

The Senior I  is appropriate for those of high school age who are new to the sport of competitive swimming.   The senior I training program strongly emphasizes conditioning as well as technique, and it provides the individual with opportunities to progress rapidly. Senior level swimmers who are involved in other high school sports may choose to train with this group. Attendance at daily training sessions is strongly encouraged.

Training Schedule:  Workouts are available from M - F.
Meet Participation: Participation in dual meets, invitationals and championship meets (if qualified) is optional.

The Senior II  squad experiences the highest caliber of training and competition offered by the Hawaii Swimming Club. At this level, daily workouts are highly individualized. Each athlete encounters daily opportunities to develop skills and endurance necessary to compete at state, regional, and national levels.

Training Schedule:  Senior II swimmers may train up to nine times per week.

Meet Participation: Participation in dual meets, invitationals and championship meets (if qualified) is expected.
