Pathway: Development

Age Guideline: 8-11 Years 

Training Venue: HKIS, Tai Tam

Aim: The aim of Development squad is to give competitive opportunities to those who have long term potential and wishing to commit to swimming by promoting good sportsmanship, encouraging competition and to develop stroke technique and skills, in a fun environment.

Squad Criteria:

  • Perform all four strokes with good technique.
  • Good turns on all four strokes.
  • Streamline and dolphin kicks off of each push off.
  • Good understanding of lane discipline e.g. using pace clock, streamlining, following instructions, leaving a five second gap in between swimmers, positive attitude, application of training and execution of skills.
  • 8 x 50 Stroke Efficiency Test Set
  • Complete 10 x 50 kick on 1:15
  • Perform 200m IM in under 4:00 and 200 FREE under 3:30
  • Regularly attend Stingrays Time Trials and other target meets
  • Commit to the required amount of training sessions.

Minimum Training Commitment: All swimmers should attend a minimum of 3 (7-8yrs) or 4 (9+yrs) sessions per week, but ideally should be attending all 5 sessions to develop further.

Competitions: All swimmers in Development squad will be expected to attend competitions. It is important that swimmers get exposure to all levels of competitions to aid their development.

  • Cycle 1 Sep-Dec: RBSC Bangkok Invitational November 2019
  • Cycle 2 Jan-Apr: UWCSEA Dragons Den April 2020
  • Cylce 3 May-Jun: Stingrays Invitational May 2020

Other Competitions: HKASA Div 2, 3  Meets, Stingrays Timetrials, Dual Club

Equipment: Swimsuit/Jammers, team cap, goggles, water bottle, Fins, Kickboard, Pull buoy, Snorkel, Hand Paddles and Mesh bag.
