HKSSF Division 1 Heats

A team of 30 Female Dragon Swimmers from both Middle School & High School descended on Kowloon Park Swimming Pool on Friday 18th October for the fast and furious HKSSF D1 Swimming Championships (Heats).  This meets is classed as the fastest meet in Hong Kong with 12 of the fastest schools battling it out for a place in the finals.

Many of the swimmers will be back this week for Finals (list below) on the 25th in a meet that is televised live in Hong Kong.

Blog from Mieke Chorus (Freshman)

I’m Mieke Chorus, a Freshman in HKIS, and I was lucky enough to swim for our school this weekend in HKSSF Division One!

Going into this meet, I was nervous, but mostly excited as I've been training more than ever since the start of the season and was ready to see where this has brought me.  With the pressure brought by the other teams’ fanatic cheering along with the team spirit from HKIS, this was the perfect racing environment for me to push myself. To know your teammates have your back; to look over from behind the blocks and see your team standing and cheering for you, means everything (despite the amount of cheering you actually hear during the swim!). If the atmosphere were any different, it could easily have kept me from making PB’s in my two events.

Since the girls’ team only recently joined division one, I had never suspected to make finals, and am now only more determined to drop another second. Overall I thought this meet was a fun way to start the HKIS 19-20 swim season, and another factor driving me to do the best I can in racing, and training.
