Pool Closures

15 July 2020 To Our Stingrays and Sharks Learn To Swim Families, As announced the other day, the Hong Kong Government has, once again, imposed sweeping social-distancing rules to combat the recent uptick in Covid-19 cases in the city. In compliance with these rules, the HKIS Repulse Bay pool and LCSD (Wanchai pool) have since closed until further notice. Like most everyone in Hong Kong, we thought the city had the pandemic fairly under control. We are also extremely disappointed to learn of the recent trajectory, and hence pool closures, that has posed another setback to the training of our swimmers. Our Coaches and Board are monitoring the situation closely and we hope to work out some alternative virtual training sessions for the short term until the pools reopen. Please check the coaches’ WhatsApp group chat regularly for further information and updates on resumption of swim practice. Given the fluid situation which may extend to August, a few parents have expressed concerns about our swim program this Fall. This is something that we cannot ascertain until we receive clear indication from HKIS that school will reopen in mid-August. Therefore, we ask for your patience at this time and will update you once we get further information. Meanwhile, as always, please feel free to contact your coaches directly or to the Board ([email protected]) for any concerns. We sincerely hope to get everyone back in the water as soon as possible! Thank you for your understanding. Yours Sincerely, Craig Lindsay President, Hong Kong Island Stingrays Swim Club
