DASH Board of Directors Position Openings September 2020

 

*Requirements to be a Board member

Requirements you must meet in order to be a DASH Board member are as follows:

  • You are a parent/guardian (21 or older) of a Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricane member

  • Are motivated to make the DASH the best swim team experience possible.

  • Enjoy volunteering with other friendly and fun-loving DASH parents.

  • Complete USA Swimming Leadership and Management 101 online course

 

Commitment:

  • Can commit to serve on the DASH Board of Directors for a minimum of 3 years

Year 1: shadowing your position, learning and participating in the chosen role but as non-voting member of the board

Year 2: Become a voting member of the DASH Board or Directors, continue to participate in the position

Year 3: Train a new board member for your position, resin a voting member of the DASH board

  • Attend monthly DASH Board of Directors meetings (currently held the 2nd Monday of the Month)

There are many perks of being on the Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricane of Directors, the most important one is the joy you have knowing you are encouraging and cultivating the love of swimming for children in your community.

Other advantages include:

  • No volunteer credit requirements. Volunteers on the Board put in enough hours throughout the year that these are not required for them.

  • Have input on the inner workings of the Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricane team. We are always looking for ways to improve the swim team experience for our swimmers.

 

 


 

 

DASH is seeking the following positions for September 2020:

 

Corporate Sponsorship and Fundraising: 1 Shadow position open

 

Responsible for developing and managing fundraising options and corporate sponsorship in order to help keep membership affordable for families.

  • Shadow position the first year than a voting member of board the follow year(s)

  • Attend and participate as a member of the Corporate Sponsorship and Fundraising Committee

  • Coordinate product sales and delivery of fundraisers with vendors

  • Promote fundraiser through flyers, posters around the pool, emails to families. 

  • Contact possible sponsors and coordinate/set up sponsorship and advertising. 

  • Provide info for marketing and website/social media manager for current and upcoming events

  • Corporate sponsorship and fundraising experience preferred.   


 

Marketing/Publicity/Website Manager: 1 Shadow position open

 

Responsible for publicity and updating the DASH website with current events.

  • Shadow position the first year than a voting member of board the follow year(s)

  • Utilize social media, internal and external communications, recruiting materials, bulletin boards, newsletter, and overall imaging/branding so that the team is presented consistently both internally and externally.

  • Create and update the website with current events and information. Sends out information via website communications (email), Facebook, and/or flyers to families & coaching staff regarding events

  • Marketing experience preferred

 

Grant Writer:1 Shadow position open

 

Responsible for writing grant proposals for our organization. The Grant Writer will write coherent, organized and compelling proposals

  • Shadow position the first year than a voting member of the board the follow year(s)

  • Displaying adherence to the organization's mission.

  • Maintaining proficient knowledge of organization’s history and programs.

  • Identifying grant funding opportunities.

  • Writing, submitting and managing grant proposals.

  • Grant writing or creative writing experience prefered


 

Social/Spirit Wear and Team Spirit Coordinator: 1 Shadow position open

 

Responsible for developing the social activities that help develop team unity and spirit.  Organizes all aspects of team merchandise. Plan team building/social activities monthly during the season

  • Shadow position the first year than a voting member of board the follow year(s)

  • Plan awards nights at the end of each season

  • Plans “fun” team activities and coordinates parent volunteer for events

  • Work with athlete reps to design end of season shirts. 

  • Select, set up ordering and distribution of all team apparel, caps and swim suits and update the team website with merchandise offerings. 

  • Maintains relationship with Speedo representative and addresses Speedo contract renewal 6 months prior to expiration of the contract. 

  • Works with Speedo to develop team purchasing portal

  • Orders meet ribbons as needed
