Alejandra "Coach Alex" Castillo - Head Coach (Interim)

Alejandra started swimming competitively at the age of 8!  She swam all through high school and competed in college in the NAIA division.  Alejandra was a distance swimmer and her favorite stroke is freestyle.  She has coaching experience in both community and club teams and while she likes coaching all the strokes, she thinks coaching butterfly is her favorite!  What she enjoys most about coaching is creating a learning culture and supportive environment where swimmers can have fun and be successful in and out of the pool.  Her philosophy is to encourage swimmers to work with her in partnership to reach the best possible version of themselves.  This partnership allows for the fundamentals of swimming (technique, intensity, growth) to be taught, conditioned, and honed in a positive atmosphere.

Alejandra joins us as a part-time coach as her primary focus is on pursuing her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa.  Her research is focused on twice-exceptionality, autism, and multicultural disparities and her clinical focus population is children and adolescents.  In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, and spending time with her two cats!

Airiana Mohr - Assistant Coach

Airiana swam for her local YMCA team for over 6 years and has a combined 5 years of coaching experience.  She was a volunteer assistant coach for her YMCA’s Special Olympics team as well as an assistant and co-head coach for the Rockford Country Club summer swim team.  Her favorite stroke to swim is freestyle and she loves to coach both freestyle and breastroke!  Airiana’s coaching philosophy is that everything builds from having a solid foundation.  She knows that everyone learns in different ways and she enjoys being creative in how she describes or demonstrates skills and how to use drills to practice them.  This makes coaching interesting and fun!

Airiana will graduate from the University of Iowa in 2023 with a degree in neuroscience and minors in Spanish and Psychology.  After graduation she hopes to attend medical school and work in Emergency Medicine.  In her free time, she likes to read, go on walks and play volleyball.

Meirav Flatté - Assistant Coach

At the age of 10, Meirav followed her older sisters onto the Eels swim where she swam competitively for 8 years.  She has continued to swim in college for the University of Rochester for the last three years and plans to keep competing in her  final year of college this year. Meirav’s favorite events are the 400 IM and the 200 fly, as well as the 200 back every once in awhile! She also loves competing the fly leg of the 4x100 medley relay.  Her favorite stroke to swim and to coach is butterfly!

Meirav’s coaching philosophy is that anyone can swim, regardless of experience. She loves working with athletes and helping them grow both in and out of the water. Her favorite part about coaching is watching her swimmers achieve the goals they set and helping them to come up with new goals.  This will be her second year coaching for the Eels. She enjoys coaching the masters group as well as the age-group kids and is excited to be on deck this summer.

Meirav loves working with art and being creative! She does a lot of stained glass which she likes to think of as a huge puzzle that she gets to make and put together! She also loves hanging out with friends and family.

Meirav will graduate in 2023 from the University of Rochester with a degree in Molecular Genetics and a minor in religion.  She plans on attending medical school after she graduates.
