Winter Invite
Great job to the 48 swimmers who traveled to Lewiston for the Winter Invite last weekend! This meet featured several unique events not usually available to all age groups, and our swimmers took advantage of the opportunity. With single age group scoring, our kids also fared very well on the leaderboards. Combined with a ton of best times, it was a very successful weekend!
First shoutouts have to go to our new team record holders. Michaela Richards took down the long sought-after 8 and under girls 25 free team record, went 8 for 8 on best times, and won every event to claim high point-a spectacular sweep if we’ve ever seen one! Avery Bennett jumped out of the normal 8 and under event cycle to claim the team’s first ever record for the 1650 and 1000 freestyles, and took down the 500 freestyle team record en route. Avery was also 7 for 7 on best times & second place high point for 8 year old girls! Adeline Downing completed the dominance for our young ladies, earning the team’s inaugural 9-10 girls 1650 freestyle record, swimming 5 new best times, and claiming the 9 year old girls’ high point award.
A ton of our swimmers earned top-3 high point finishes. Kamran Rosenberger took top honors for 7 year old boys and earned 2 best times, Hank Crow was second in the 8 year old boys’ division and scored 6 best times, while Liv Tyslau won the 10 year old girls’ age group and was a whopping 9 for 9 on best times! Maggie Sobek came in second for the 11 year old girls with 7 best times & a new Age Group sectional cut, with Brielle Schmidt right behind in 3rd with an impressive 8 for 8 best times. Trace Bennett walked away with the 11 year old boys’ top spot, and had 5 best times including a terrific first ever 1650; Everly Desancic won 6 of her 7 races, and dropped time in them all to claim third for the 12 year old girls. Karsten Towry was runner-up for the 13 year old girls amidst 7 best times highlighted by her win in the 200 back, Bostyn Shoemaker took third by winning 5 of her events just a week removed from the WA Open competition, and Anjali Richards took second place for the 14 year old girls while notching a perfect 7 for 7 best times! Our 14 year old boys absolutely dominated, indicating a bright future for our 15+ men’s team. Owen Bennett took top honors, with 7 best times and an Age Group Sectional cut in his 1650 freestyle; Jace Voeller was 8 for 9 best times and won the 200 breast, tying for second in the high point scoring with Dawson Cushman and his 7 best times and first place finishes in the 100 breast and 200 IM, with Andrew Davis completing the 4 person sweep with 8 bests and a win in the 500 free. Elise Bell was second for the 16 year old girls, earning 5 best times highlighted by a win and 11 second drop in the 200 back, while Lachlan Piper in his first CAST meet was second for the 16 year old boys, with wins in the 100 breast and 50 free! KC Hughes rounded out our top 3 finishers, with second place for the 17 year old boys and a perfect 7 for 7 best times!
A big shoutout to our first-time competitors-Lachlan, Rylee Racanelli, who had a terrific 50 free to finish 4th, and Abby Windsor, who did a great job in all three of her races including a legal 50 breaststroke!
