PRACTICE GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

 

The Blue Devil Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Blue Devils Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

 

 

 

PRACTICE GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

 

 

JUNIOR DEVIL GROUPS

Junior Devil 1 – needs more technique work to make strokes, turns and starts legal

Junior Devil 2 – more advanced beginner group closer to having all four strokes legal. Able to swim longer distances and execute more advanced actions.
Age: 10 & Under
Skill Level: Beginner (minimum requirement is 25 yards freestyle with rotary breathing and 25 backstroke)
Practice Goals: To learn proper technique in all 4 stokes with introduction to starts and turn mastery.
Attendance Expectations: There is no requirement but attending as many practices as possible is recommended. 

Swim Meet Expectations: Swim meets are very important to measure a swimmer’s progress and while not required, participation is highly recommended. This group is recommended to participate in the BDSC Dual and Tri Meets

 

Blue Group

Age: 11 – 14 year old (anyone younger than 11 is only allowed in this group with coach recommendation)
Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced Beginner
Practice Goals: Having all 4 stokes be legal and be able to compete in an IM (Individual Medley). Refine skills such as starts and turns.
Attendance Expectations: There is no requirement but attending as many practices as possible is recommended. 

Swim Meet Expectations: Swim meets are very important to measure a swimmer’s progress and while not required, participation is encouraged and highly recommended. This group is required to participate in BDSC Dual and Tri meets 

 

Bronze Group

Age: 9 – 14 year old (anyone younger than 9 is only allowed in this group with coach recommendation)
Skill Level: Intermediate
Practice Goals: To refine strokes and skills, learning to use the pace clock and have a desire to improve their swimming by working hard. Swimmers will be divided into lanes based upon abilities during practice
Attendance Expectations: A minimum of 2 practices a week is required, but 3 practices a week is recommended. 

Swim Meet Expectations: Swim meets are very important to measure a swimmer’s progress and 1 swim meet session a month is required; more sessions are recommended. We will work towards racing in longer distances including 100 and 200 yd events. 

 

Silver Group

Age: 10 – 14 year old (anyone younger than 10 is only allowed in this group with coach recommendation)
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Practice Goals: To make Regional Qualifying Times by refining strokes and skills. Swimmers should be able to hold 8x100 IM’s on 2:30 and 8x100 flutter kick on 3:00. Swimmers will be divided into lanes based upon abilities during practice.
Practice Attendance Expectations: A minimum of 3 practices a week is required, but 4 practices a week is recommended. 

Swim Meet Expectations: Swim meets are very important to measure a swimmer’s progress and 2 swim meet session a month is required; more sessions are recommended. We will work towards racing in longer distances including 100, 200 and 500 yd events. 

 

Gold Group

Age: 10 – 14 year old (anyone younger than 10 is only allowed in this group with coach recommendation)
Skill Level: Advanced
Practice Goals: Qualifying Times for Regional, State, and higher level,  with more emphasis on fine tuning technique, improving pacing and race strategy. Swimmers should be able to hold 8x100 IM’s,  8x100 flutter kick on a demanding interval. Swimmers will be divided into lanes based upon abilities during practice.
Practice Attendance Expectations: A minimum of 4 practices a week is required, but 5 practices a week is recommended. 

Swim Meet Expectations: Swim meets are a measure of a swimmer’s progress, and this group is expected to attend most meets offered throughout the season. We will work towards racing in longer distances including 200, 500 and 1650 yd events. 

 

Senior 

Age: 14 & older (swimmers start in this group the summer before Freshman year of high school) 

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Practice Goals: Swimmers should be focused on improving technique, learning pacing and race strategy competition. Many swimmers in this group are preparing for high school swim season.
Practice Attendance Expectations: A minimum of 4 practices a week is required.. 

Swim Meet Expectations: Swim meets are very important to measure a swimmer’s progress and monthly attendance at meets are required; more sessions are recommended. We will work towards racing in longer distances including 200 Stroke, 400 IM, 500 and 1650 yd events. 

 

Senior Advanced 

Age: 14 & older with Championship Qualifying times. Any swimmer younger than 14 must have achieved Regional/State qualifying times. 

Skill Level: Advanced
Practice Goals: Swimmers should be serious about the sport, train aggressively with the goal of achieving Sectional qualifying standards and moving towards national level competition; as well as prepare for college swimming.

Practice Attendance Expectations: 6 practices week are required

Swim Meet Expectations: Swimmers are expected to attend 85%+ of all meets, practices and dryland sessions. 

 

 

 

These group descriptions are for basic guidelines and are not intended as hard line requirements. The Head Coach in conjunction with the group coaches has the final say in all instances. In all instances the coaches will do what is best for the swimmer and team as a whole.
