Swimmers Make BNSC History at 2018 Central Zone Open Water Championship Meet

On Friday June 15th, BNSC sent 2 swimmers to represent Team Illinois at the Central Zone Open Water Championship meet in Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Emily Hartman, age 17, swam in the Women’s Open 5k and Connor Jessen, age 14, swam in the 13/14 Boy’s 3k.  Both Emily and Connor are new to open water swimming and did a FANTASTIC job representing themselves, BNSC & Team Illinois.  Emily placed 36th out of 64 swimmers clocking 1 hour 7 minutes 52 seconds and 39 hundred seconds (1:07:52.39).  Connor placed 28th out of 34 swimmers clocking 35 minutes 51 seconds and 85 hundred seconds (35:51.85).  When asked what they thought of open water, they said it was different and interesting, hard to see through the water and a little creepy that some dead fish were on the beach.  Both gave it their all and set NEW BNSC Team records in the process.

We are so proud of you!  This was a challenging meet to qualify for and even more challenging swimming in unfamiliar surroundings.  You are amazing!
