Coach Bob Loy Lead Senior Coach

Coach Bob grew up in Bloomington-Normal and graduated from Bloomington High School. While at BHS, Coach Bob lettered all 4 years, earned All-State honors in breaststroke and held the school record for the 200 freestyle. On a swimming scholarship, Coach Bob attended Illinois State University and lettered all four years with five school records (100 and 200 breaststroke, 400 medley relay and both the 400 and 800 freestyle relays) His degree was in PE and Health Education. 

Accepting a position with BHS after graduating from ISU as a teacher and Swimming/Diving coach for both the girl and boys swim season. Teaching for over 38 years and coaching swimming for 40 years, Coach Bob produced over 125 All-State, 65 All-American swimmers/divers as well named Coach of the Year 26 times. 

Growing up in Bloomington-Normal, Coach Bob swam for the original BNSC program starting at age 10. He later returned to coach the program, which is now called Redbird Swim Club. During his six years at Redbird, he helped the team produce six state championship banners. Coach Bob is excited to continue his legacy at BNSC and hopes to produce more champions for the team.

Coach Charlie Clemons Interim Lead Developmental Coach
‘Coach Charlie is originally from Peoria and has lived in the Bloomington/Normal area with his wife Kelsey for 5 years. His favorite stroke is the butterfly as it is so mentally and physically demanding. He grew up competing in both swimming and club soccer. Charlie swam for PAWW swim club in Peoria for 8 years and 4 years varsity at Richwoods High School, earning multiple all-sectional honors and state final berths in the butterfly, freestyle sprint distances and medley/freestyle relays. Charlie spent a few summers coaching and teaching swim lessons before attending The University of Illinois. He played club water polo and soccer in college before graduating with his B.S in Community Health in 2013. Charlie is a marketing consultant at Country Financial and continues to swim on his own time. In recent years, Charlie has experience in personal training and coaching soccer for the local club. Charlie embraces an athlete-centered approach, highly based in technical stroke development and both long and short-term goal setting. Charlie is excited to get back into swimming and the opportunity to help our swimmers get the most out of their experience.’
Coach Dawn Fudge Assistant Coach

Coach Dawn, has been coaching for BNSC for more than 13 years.  She is currently a Special Education teacher at Parkside Junior High School where she has taught for 22 years and the Head Coach for girls swimming at Normal West Community High School where she was named 2017 Sectional Coach of the year.  Coach Dawn earned her Bachelor's degree in Communications and a Master's in Special Education from Illinois State University.  She was raised in Waukegan, Illinois, and started swimming at an early age for the YMCA and park district where her father was the coach.  As a student at Waukegan West High School, Dawn swam all four years, two of which she participated on relay teams at the state championship meet.  Dawn also taught swim lessons and assisted in coaching area park district teams.  Dawn’s favorite events while swimming included the Breaststroke and the Individual Medley. Coach Dawn lives in rural Stanford with her husband Chuck, son Harrison who swims for the University of Denver, daughter Hadley who attends U-High, and several beloved dogs and cats.  Harrison and Hadley both began swim lessons at 6 months old with Coach Rob at RKSA, hold numerous BNSC records and Harrison is a six time Illinois Swimming Age Group State Champion. Coach Dawn has produced IHSA State Champions, All Americans, Jr/National Qualifiers, Sectional/Futures Champions. 

 
Coach Rob Knight Assistant Coach

For the past 26 years Rob and his wife Chris have operated their swim school RKSA in the former BJHS building downtown Bloomington where many former and current BNSC swimmers got their start in swimming including their daughter Kathleen who started with her mom in the Baby classes and continued swimming for BNSC, U-High and earned Academic All America and MVP Senior Swimmer honors at the University of Illinois. Prior to that, Rob worked in agriculture for FS and Country Companies after graduating with a degree in Agronomy from the University of IL. During this tine he was also an assistant coach for John Almeida, Rob’s club team coach, and was blessed to also have been coached by and with the legendary long-time ISU head coach Archie Harris. Rob’s dad was President of the original BNSC Swim Club when coach Almeida was hired to take over the Head Coach position for Archie Harris. After a few years off from coaching to concentrate on the operations and future of RKSA at their current location, Rob is looking forward to being back on deck helping coordinate the growth and development of the younger swimmers with a laser-like focus on stroke development, starts, turns, and the characteristics and qualities necessary to train and compete at each athlete’s greatest potential.

Coach Hannah Westphall Assistant Coach

Coach Hannah is from Aurora, Illinois and she has been a swimmer for 12 years. Her love of swimming began at a very young age as she was exposed to aquatic life through various outdoor activities. She swam for the Oakhurst North Torpedoes, Mavericks Swim Club, and was on the varsity swim and water polo teams for Metea Valley High School. Additionally, she has 3 years of coaching experience for the Oakhurst Nort Torpedoes. She is currently a junior at Illinois State University but continues to swim in her free time, consistently practice her best strokes backstroke and freestyle. She is excited to coach swimming again in an educational setting due to her love of the sport and anticipation to help young swimmers achieve their goals.

Coach Adrianne Cornejo Assistant Coach

Growing up in Tinley Park until moving to the Bloomington-Normal area in junior high, Coach Adrianne started swimming competitively year round at the age of 5, went to state for the first time at 7, and swam at state and zones every year until she stopped swimming. Coach Adrianne graduated from University High School. During her time there she swam at state every year, was All-America in backstroke and 200 free, and held many school records. Her sophomore year she helped her team place 5th overall at IHSA Girls State, which was the highest place of any team south of 80 to that date for swimming. Coach Adrianne graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles with a Bachelors of Art in Fashion Design and Business and currently is a full time real estate agent with RE/MAX Choice in Bloomington. She loves getting involved in the community and feels that is one of the best ways to make a positive impact. Coach Adrianne has been coaching for over 12 years, spending many years as the 11-12 coach at the local summer rec team, Normal Parks Sharks, 3 years as the head coach for Olympia High School boys and girls swimming and diving team, and has also been with BNSC since 2014. Coach Adrianne is certified Level 1 for ASCA and has IHSA credentials as well. She believes that working hard at something you love to do, with people you trust, is one of the most gratifying experiences in life and at BNSC she hopes to help the swimmers learn to grow and learn in a gratifying way.

Coach Brittnie Dean Assistant Coach

Prior the BNSC, Coach Brittnie graduated from Lewis University where she swam for the Flyers. Hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout her career earned her numerous club team records, six time Y National attendee in multiple events each year, four time All-American, five high school records as well as a IHSA State competitor and many other accolades. Swimming gave Coach Brittnie a chance to travel, meet a variety of individuals, and earn an appreciation for higher level meets knowing hard work pays off. Passing along the same passion, work ethic, experience, and enjoyment of what competitive swimming has to offer to others is one way Coach Brittnie can engage age group swimmers to fall in love with the sport for years to come. Coach Brittnie was an assistant coach for the Kishwaukee YMCA . While at her club team, she assisted coaching and developing the Novice and Age Group swimmers.

Coach Caroline Bazan Assistant Coach

Coach Caroline has been a BNSC swim member since 2015 and has swam for over 10 years. She is the University High School Swim Team Co-Captain, and her favorite events are the 100 and 200 freestyle. Coach Caroline has made appearances in IHSA high school state. Speedo Sectionals, Age Group, State, and numerous Regional meets. Besides swimming, she has taught private swim lessons for over three years and has experience teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities. After she graduates in the spring, she plans on attending The University of Illinois. She is excited to be coaching at BNSC and help swimmers have fun and work to reach their goals. 

Coach Jade Fung Assistant Coach

Coach Jade started swim lesson with Coach Rob before she joined BNSC. Recently, Coach Jade finished her ten year competitive swimming career with BNSC. During her time as a swimmer, Jade helped to break team records and made appearances at Age Group State, Winter Regionals, Summer Regionals, and Diversity Zones. In addition to swimming on BNSC,  she was the co-captain on University High School’s Varsity Swim and Dive Team, where she is s Senior. After she graduates in the Spring, Coach Jade plans to major in Business at a 4-year university. Coach Jade lives in Bloomington with her sister Raine, who swim on JV with BNSC, and both of her parents, Franklin and Collette, who are both actively involved in BNSC. Coach Jade taught swim lessons in the Summer of 2016 at Normal Parks and Recreation and loves working with kids. Jade’s favorite events are sprint breaststroke and freestyle. Coach Jade is excited to start her coaching career with BNSC as the new Junior Coach and assist training and helping swimmers grow to reach their goals.

Coach Rachel Dean Beloved Coach

Coach Rachel loved the sport of swimming and wanted everyone she met to love it as well.

Rachel started swimming from a very young age, loving the water. She swam age group for the Marlins Swim Club. Entering high school her incredible talent began to shine. She swam Varsity for Normal West High School, all four years. She also swam in the senior group for the Bloomington normal Swim team. She was team captain and a true leader.

Rachel was a very familiar face in the community while teaching swim lessons and life guarding for Bloomington Park and Recreations. She became pool manager at O’Neil/Holiday and taught Red Cross Certification classes while continuing to teach swim lessons. Rachel taught 100’s of kids in our community to love the sport of swimming!!

After high school Rachel swam for Lincoln College achieving her goal of making it to Nationals and medaling in several events. She was an incredible backstroker!!

Entering Illinois State University she started coaching for Bloomington Normal Swim Club and Normal West High school. Summers she continued to manager Bloomington Park and Rec Aquatic pools and programs. She also spent time coaching kids for Special Olympics.

Graduating from ISU, Rachel was thrilled to taker her dream job teaching at Glen Oak Elementary school in Peoria.

BNSC was very lucky to have such a talented coach working with our swimmers day in and out. She encouraged kids to “keep on swimming.”
