Jon Delzell, Danville High School

When did you start swimming?  How did you get started?  What teams or clubs have you swum with?

I started swimming competitively in second grade.  I had taken lessons before and decided to join the Danville YMCA team after watching my older sister swim for her high school team.  I have swum for the Danville YMCA, Turtle Run, Team Phoenix Aquatics, Danville High School and Champaign County YMCA Heat.

What are your college plans?  Will you swim?  What will you major in?

I plan on continuing my swimming career at Eastern Illinois University.  I am undecided on a major at the moment, but I am thinking about pursuing a degree in marketing.

What have you learned from swimming?

I have learned that nothing comes easy and if you want to succeed at something you have to work hard at it.  Swimming has also taught me that you can stay focused even in times of adversity.

What is your favorite swimming memory?

My favorite swimming memory is breaking the Danville High School 50 Free record at sectionals this year.

What is your favorite event?  Least favorite?

My favorite race to swim is the 100 free, but my favorite race to watch is the 500 free.  I haven't really strayed from spring freestyle events in the past few years, but I guess my least favorite event to swim is the 100 breast.

What is your favorite movie?  Favorite food?  Favorite place?

My favorite movie is Walking Life.  My favorite food is Kansas City BBQ.  My favorite place is Los Angeles or Delphi, Greece.

What 3 people would you invite to dinner?

Roberto Clemente, Jerry Garcia and my dad.
