Elmhurst Aquatics Announcement

Timothy Lisowski

Since Coach Davis’ retirement last fall, the Elmhurst Swim Team Board has worked diligently to find a new head coach for our program and an appropriate plan to get back to the pool consistently. We feel that we have accomplished both of these goals, and we are thrilled to fill you in on the exciting new direction of our program.

The first bit of news that we’d like to share is that Elmhurst Swim Team has united with Elmhurst Water Polo to form an all-encompassing aquatics program that will now be called Elmhurst Aquatics. Moving forward, we will offer all three IHSA aquatics sports - swimming, diving, and water polo - to residents of Elmhurst and our surrounding communities. The goal is to provide as many aquatics opportunities as possible for our kids to enjoy, and we now have the resources and coaches to do it.

We are also delighted to announce that we’ve hired Megan Jensen to be the head coach of Elmhurst Aquatics. Megan is currently the head girls’ and an assistant boys’ swimming and diving coach at York High School. She also comes to us with over a decade of experience coaching at Lyons Aquatics. Megan is as passionate about swimming as they come, and she will be a great fit for our community.

Elmhurst Water Polo was started in our community about five years ago and has grown exponentially during that time. We are bringing on their head coach, Brian Drumm, to be the head water polo coach at Elmhurst Aquatics. Brian is also the head boys’ water polo coach at York High School and has been a head water polo coach at the high school level for 14 years. He also has experience coaching swimming at the club and high school levels for over a decade.

Finally, we would like to share our plan for getting back to the pool! We will open summer registration early April and begin practicing on June 1st. The York Aquatics Center at York High School will be closed for construction this summer, so we have secured pool time at The Water’s Edge Aquatic Center in Bensenville. Depending on the age of your swimmer, practices will take place Monday - Friday between 4:00-7:30pm and on Saturday between 12:00-3:00pm. Elementary and middle school water polo practices will be held at River Forest Country Club on weekend mornings and Monday evenings. High school water polo will be at 5 Seasons in Burr Ridge on weeknight evenings. We will have a preliminary schedule set soon and will share it with you at that time. We are also actively looking for swim meets and water polo tournaments to attend over the summer months. We plan to return to York on a full-time basis as soon as the pool re-opens, and we are hoping that this will occur in August.

This was a lot of information, so I’ll assume you have many questions. We hope to fill you in on all of the details and introduce you to Megan and Brian at a Zoom “meet and greet” on Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00pm. We’re accepting questions ahead of time, so please email them to me by Tuesday, March 9th, and I will pass them along to our coaches. We plan to send the Zoom link for the meeting by the end of this week. In the meantime, please stay safe. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon!
