Scholarship Program for Graduating High School Seniors

 

Program Description:

Consistent with the purpose of Elmhurst Aquatics outlined in the organization’s by-laws, it is the intent of the Board of Directors to award scholarships to outgoing Senior athletes that have exhibited exemplary leadership in living out the mission of Elmhurst Aquatics of providing an atmosphere that promotes the advancement of aquatic sports to athletes of all ability levels.

 

Each Spring, eligible high school seniors will be made aware of the application window and instructions for submitting their application to the Board of Directors for consideration.  Applicants must meet all qualifications outlined below, and the distribution of scholarships will be evaluated based on these criteria.

 

The number of awards and amounts may vary on a year-to-year basis, depending on the budgeted amount for the program and the number of applicants, however, the minimum award amount will be $1000 for each recipient.  It is the intent of the Board to prioritize funding for the scholarship program to ensure its success and continued availability to all qualified applicants.  The program WILL NOT be funded through athlete participation fees, but instead through separate fundraising activities.

 

Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to graduation and a full listing will be published on the Elmhurst Aquatics website.

 

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior planning to pursue higher education in the Fall of the application year
  • Be an active member in good standing of Elmhurst Aquatics activities at the time of application
  • Have a history (evaluated by Coaches and the Board of Directors) of active leadership within Elmhurst Aquatics activities consistent with the mission of the organization.  Some possible examples include the following:
  • Strong attendance record, attitude, and work ethic at EA practices and events
  • Formal or informal mentorship of younger EA athletes
  • Active promotion of inclusion of all EA athletes, including outward support of the team atmosphere 
  • Volunteering at home swim meets and tournaments and EA social events
  • Other activities consistent with the goals of EA to cultivate teamwork, positive attitude, respect for oneself and others, physical health, hard work, and competitiveness

 

Submit a short essay that captures all of the requirements listed below:

Write your essay to reflect on your personal experience with Elmhurst Aquatics and how you feel the mission and values of EA have helped you thus far in your life and/or prepared you for your future. 

 

  1. If known at the time of application, include in your essay which institution and field of study you have chosen, and if you plan to continue to participate in aquatic sports or activities in the future. 
  2. Please include any anecdote, experience, or words of advice that you feel would be valuable for the next generation of EA athletes to hear.
