Updated Covid-19 Plan for Lincoln-Way Swim Association

BACK IN THE WATER SAFELY AT LINCOLN-WAY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 210

Thank you to all of you for your patience and support of our coaching staff and the Gators program through this COVID-19 pandemic. During these unprecedented times, our swim club continues to show its strength and unity.  The coaches greatly appreciate your efforts.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Our number one priority is the safety of your athletes and the coaching staff members during this time.

 Facility

  • The facilities will be cleaned daily per CDC and IDPH guidelines.
  • Pool chemistry will be tested daily prior to swimmers entering the pool.
  • The locker rooms are closed. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • No outside food or drink will be allowed in the facility.
  • The drinking fountain will not be available. Bring water from home. No sharing of bottles allowed.
  • When using the restroom we will use community locker rooms.

 Coaches

  • Coaches will take their temperature each day prior to practice. Any coach experiencing any symptoms of any illness (or exposure to someone who has any symptoms) will be told to remain at home and seek medical treatment, as needed. If any coach does have a fever (100.4 or higher) or any symptoms of illnesses, they may not attend a practice for 72 hours after fever or symptoms disappear.
  • Coaches will be in masks while engaging the swimmers on the pool deck and maintain social distancing during practices.
  • Coaches will not huddle with swimmers before, during, or after practice.

Swimmers

  • Parents will take their swimmer’s temperature each day prior to practice. Any swimmer experiencing any symptoms of any illness (or exposure to someone who has any symptoms) will be told to remain at home and seek medical treatment, as needed. If any swimmer does have a fever (100.4 or higher) or any symptoms of illnesses, they may not attend a practice for 72 hours after fever or symptoms disappear.
  • Swimmers who miss a practice must have their parents contact the coaches to verify the reason for absence.
  • Swimmers will not be allowed to congregate in groups of any size before, during, or after practice.

Parents

  • The spectator areas of the facilities are closed to parents. Parents will remain outside the building maintaining social distance and/or in their vehicles during practice.

BEFORE PRACTICE

  • Any swimmer experiencing any symptoms of illness should remain at home and seek medical treatment.
  • Swimmers who arrive at the facility early must remain in their vehicle until allowed to enter at the above-mentioned time.
  • Swimmers must not congregate in the parking lot.
  • If parents are dropping off a swimmer, the parent must stay until their swimmer is admitted to the pool deck.
  • Swimmers will arrive at the facility with swimsuits already on. There will be no locker room for changing.
  • Swimmers will enter the facility through a designated door.
  • Swimmers will not be allowed to enter the facility until ten (10) minutes prior to the beginning of their practice and only when a coach is present.
  • Swimmers will be allowed to enter the pool when instructed by a coaching staff member and will enter one (1) athlete at a time. Swimmers must maintain social distancing while waiting to enter the facility.
  • Swimmers must wear masks when entering and leaving the building.  Swimmers without a mask on will not be permitted to enter the facility.
  • Swimmers will bring a sanitized plastic laundry basket to hold their clothing, towel, shoes, and equipment.  There will be an assigned space to place their baskets.  Leave your equipment bags at home. Bring an extra cap and goggles as you cannot borrow from a teammate.
  • Remember to bring your own bottle of water. No bottle sharing.

DURING PRACTICE

  • Our current plan allows us to swim three (3) swimmers per lane using 12 lanes while maintaining proper social distancing between lanes.  Swimmers will be assigned lanes by the coaches.
  • Coaches will be wearing masks during practice.
  • Parents are not allowed in the facility at any time. Parents may stay during practice on the outside of the facility provided they maintain social distancing.
  • Only one swimmer may use the restroom at a time. When using the restroom, swimmers must wear a mask.

AFTER PRACTICE

  • Swimmers will be dismissed to exit the pool in a way we may maintain social distancing.
  • Once at their baskets, swimmers will dry off with their towel, put on their shoes and mask, and immediately exit the facility. There will be no deck changing on the pool deck. All swimmers should wear some sort of slip on or deck shoe for easy wearing prior to leaving the pool area.
  • Swimmers will not be allowed to congregate in groups of any size before, during, or after practice.

HEALTH & COVID-19 TESTS

Any swimmer who has symptoms related to COVID-19 should consult a medical professional. If the medical professional recommends a COVID-19 test, the swimmer will not be allowed to return to practice until the COVID-19 test returns negative. Should a medical professional be consulted, returning to the pool will require a doctor’s note confirming the athlete is cleared to return.

REPORTING A POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST

Parents need to report a positive test for their child to Coach Mark & Coach Ryan.  Parents should also report if any of their family’s close contacts test positive. In the case of a swimmer testing positive, the coaching staff will alert the rest of the swimmers who are in the same practice session, without naming the swimmer who tested positive. All positive tests will be reported to Lincoln-Way High School District 210.  Families in that practice session will be encouraged to consult with a medical professional to determine if a COVID-19 test is needed. Swimmers who receive a positive test will not be able to return to practice until cleared by a medical professional in writing. As stated earlier, if any swimmer experiences any symptoms related to COVID-19, the athlete should stay home from practice and seek advice from a medical professional.

ILLINOIS SWIMMING REQUIRED COVID WAIVER

All athletes, coaches, and officials are required to have a signed Covid Waiver form on file with Illinois Swimming.  If you did not yet receive an email with the Covid Waiver form from Illinois Swimming, you may request the form by email.  Email [email protected] giving them your name, athlete(s) name, club name, and email address to send the form.  All participants for 2020-2021 MUST have a waiver form on file with the Illinois Swimming office or they will not be able to participate this season.

ADDITIONAL FACILITY INFORMATION

As stated previously, swimmers will have one way to enter and one way exit the pools.  This will be different than previous seasons and is subject to change as we get more into the winter weather.

At Lincoln-Way Central:

The driveway on the south side along the pool and fieldhouse building will be one way eastbound only for all dropoff and pickups.  For the start of the fall season, swimmers when entering will use the deep end pool deck door down the alleyway on the east side of the pool building.  NO CARS WILL BE PERMITTED TO DRIVE DOWN THE ALLEYWAY!  When leaving practice swimmers will exit the shallow end pool deck door on the east side of the pool building.

At Lincoln-Way West:

When entering swimmers will be dropped off on the sidewalk on the south side of the pool building along the driveway and enter the deep end pool deck door #10.  When exiting the pool, swimmers will use the shallow pool deck door #9 on the south side of the building.
