Updated Covid-19 Plan for Lincoln-Way Swim Association

BACK IN THE WATER SAFELY AT LINCOLN-WAY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 210

Thank you to all of you for your patience and support of our coaching staff and the Gators program through this COVID-19 pandemic. During these unprecedented times, our swim club continues to show its strength and unity.  The coaches greatly appreciate your efforts.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Our number one priority is the safety of your athletes and the coaching staff members.

 Facility

  • The facilities will be cleaned daily per CDC and IDPH guidelines.
  • Pool chemistry will be tested daily prior to swimmers entering the pool.
  • The locker rooms are open on a limited basis.
  • No outside food or drink will be allowed in the facility.
  • The drinking fountain will not be available with the exception of the automatic water bottle filler. No sharing of bottles allowed.
  • When using the restroom we will use P,E. locker rooms.

 Coaches

  • Coaches will take their temperature each day prior to practice. Any coach experiencing any symptoms of any illness (or exposure to someone who has any symptoms) will be told to remain at home and seek medical treatment, as needed. If any coach does have a fever (100.4 or higher) or any symptoms of illnesses, they may not attend a practice for 72 hours after fever or symptoms disappear.
  • Coaches will be in masks while engaging the swimmers on the pool deck and maintain social distancing during practices.
  • Coaches will not huddle with swimmers before, during, or after practice.

Swimmers

  • Parents will take their swimmer’s temperature each day prior to practice. Any swimmer experiencing any symptoms of any illness (or exposure to someone who has any symptoms) will be told to remain at home and seek medical treatment, as needed. If any swimmer does have a fever (100.4 or higher) or any symptoms of illnesses, they may not attend a practice for 72 hours after fever or symptoms disappear.
  • Swimmers who miss a practice must have their parents contact the coaches to verify the reason for absence.
  • Swimmers will not be allowed to congregate in groups of any size before, during, or after practice.

Parents

  • The spectator areas of the facilities are open to parents and families. Any spectator in the building must wear a mask and maintain social distance at all times.

BEFORE PRACTICE

  • Any swimmer experiencing any symptoms of illness should remain at home and seek medical treatment.
  • Swimmers who arrive at the facility early must remain in their vehicle until allowed to enter at the scheduled time.
  • Swimmers must not congregate in the parking lot or lobby areas.
  • If parents are dropping off a swimmer, the parent must stay until their swimmer is admitted to the pool deck.
  • Swimmers will arrive at the facility with swimsuits already on. There will be limited locker room for changing.
  • Swimmers will enter the facility through a designated door.
  • Swimmers will not be allowed to enter the facility until ten (10) minutes prior to the beginning of their practice and only when a coach is present.
  • Swimmers must maintain social distancing while waiting to enter the facility.
  • Swimmers must wear masks when entering and leaving the building.  Swimmers without a mask on will not be permitted to enter the facility.
  • Swimmers may bring a sanitized plastic laundry basket or equipment bags/backpacks to hold their clothing, towel, shoes, and equipment.  There will be an assigned space to place their baskets/equipment bags/backpacks.  Bring an extra cap and goggles as you cannot borrow from a teammate.
  • Remember to bring your own bottle of water. No bottle sharing.

DURING PRACTICE

  • Coaches will be wearing masks during practice.
  • Parents are allowed in the facility. Parents may stay during practice provided they maintain social distancing and wear a mask.
  • When using the restroom, swimmers must wear a mask.

AFTER PRACTICE

  • Swimmers will be dismissed to exit the pool and must maintain social distancing.
  • Once dismissed swimmers will dry off, put on their mask, and immediately exit the pool deck. There will be no deck changing on the pool deck. All swimmers should wear some sort of slip on or deck shoe for easy wearing prior to leaving the pool area.
  • Swimmers will not be allowed to congregate in groups of any size before, during, or after practice.

HEALTH & COVID-19 TESTS

Any swimmer who has symptoms related to COVID-19 should consult a medical professional. If the medical professional recommends a COVID-19 test, the swimmer will not be allowed to return to practice until the COVID-19 test returns negative. Should a medical professional be consulted, returning to the pool will require a doctor’s note confirming the athlete is cleared to return.

REPORTING A POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST

Parents need to report a positive test for their child to Coach Mark & Coach Ryan.  Parents should also report if any of their family’s close contacts test positive. In the case of a swimmer testing positive, the coaching staff will alert the LWSA families of a positive test and what group the swimmer was in, without naming the swimmer who tested positive. All positive tests will be reported to Lincoln-Way High School District 210.  Families in the group where the positive occured are encouraged to consult with a medical professional to determine if a COVID-19 test is needed. Swimmers who receive a positive test will not be able to return to practice until cleared by a medical professional in writing. As stated earlier, if any swimmer experiences any symptoms related to COVID-19, the athlete should stay home from practice and seek advice from a medical professional.
