Team Update 6.3.2020 & Fitter Faster Camp

Nicole Thompson

Dear Team,

As more information is being released, I just wanted to give you an update on what I do know and what is still unknown. I will try to send these e-mails when I have solid information to share, and I want to make sure I have the facts and not give you information that could change.

Here is what I do know:

  • No pools or beaches may open in Illinois under Phase 3 which in turn means no organized swim team practices. - We are not the only team in this boat. Currently, every team in Illinois is under this restriction.
  • Currently, a Phase 4 date is set for June 26 at the earliest if COVID testing and case numbers stay in-line with the state guidelines.
  • Tentatively, we have an open date of July 1. All of this is contingent on a couple of things: 1-We get a pool liner installed (The company has not given me a solid date yet.) 2-The state allows us to open in Phase 4. 3-Every gets up an running after the liner install.
  • Dryland will continue with Coach Hannah on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays until we can start normal practice.
  • I am looking at running a "summer season" instead of a fall stroke clinic. What that means is practice starting in July and continuing through Labor Day weekend. AM practices until the kids return to school then we would switch to PM practices.
  • I am continuing on as if everything will come into line and we will be able to open July 1. It is why I scheduled the fitter & faster clinic for July 17-18. We just finalized everything Friday, and I was e-mailing information to you all today.
  • The fitter & faster older clinic is sold out due to COVID regulations and the limited swimmers allowed. Sorry, fitter/faster sent it to their past participants and posted it on-line quickly. With every kid not being in the water, parents are jumping at the chance to swim. I do know that I am talking with them tomorrow, and we will likely add a second weekend. So, register and get on the waitlist if you want to secure a spot. I am talking with them about hosting a couple more if possible in August & September.
  • No long course summer season will take place. ISI has canceled all summer Championship meets, and they are currently developing a plan for virtual meets in the future.

Here is what I don't know:

  • What restrictions will be placed on running a program or specifically swim team. We have guidelines from American Red Cross, USA Swimming, and the CDC. No state guidelines have been released for Phase 4, so I can't finalize the standards we are putting in place until I have the state information.
  • What fall team will look like. I don't have an idea of when or what we will be allowed to do in the district. I also will not reach out until we get a better idea of Phase 4 guidelines as things said today can change tomorrow.
  • That everything can't change tomorrow. I want you to know that I am doing my best to get us up and running this summer. But, I can't guarantee that something or somebody might not throw a wrench into those plans.

I just wanted to provide you with an update and to let you know that I am fighting for us and looking to get back in action soon. Let your swimmers know I miss them and tell them I look forward to seeing them really soon.

Have a wonderful night,

-Fitter & Faster Swim Clinic Information-

Hello Swim Families!

We have some very exciting news! We are proud to announce that we will be getting back into swimming with a BANG by hosting a Fitter and Faster Sprint, Speed, and Power swim camp at  Merkel Aquatic Center on July 18 & 19!

We have chosen this curriculum so that our team can really dive back into fast swimming. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity for our whole team to refine and perfect our racing skills.

Session sizes are limited to ensure social distancing. We want all of our swimmers to learn from an ELITE CLINICIAN the techniques necessary to improve in these key parts of every race!

Prices will increase on June 11!

CLICK HERE for details and registration

There will be two sessions each day, one for swimmers ages 11 and under and one for swimmers ages 12 and older. The curriculum for each age group will be:

11 & Under: Day 1 will focus on swimming a fast 100 including tempo, pacing, flip turns and breakouts. On Day 2, we will work on swimming a fast 50 including sprinting, underwater dolphin kicking, and finishes.

12 & Over: Day 1 will focus on developing power in stroke technique, resistance training, and dynamic warmups. On Day 2, we will work on creating speed, dryland for swimming, and recovery.

Sign up for one or SAVE by signing up for both days!

Each session will be led by Elite Clinician and Paralympic medalist Tucker Dupree! Tucker has a very special talent not only for swimming fast, but for explaining the details of explosive and fast racing to swimmers of all ages! We can’t wait to learn from Tucker!
