Education and Training Changes

The Center requires regular and consistent training for all adults who interact with and have direct and frequent contact with minor athletes, including adult athletes. All USA Swimming non-athlete members regularly complete Safe Sport training, known as Athlete Protection Training. Now, all adult athlete members will also be required to complete Athlete Protection Training. All adult members—athlete and non-athlete—will be required to complete the training annually.  In addition, Safe Sport Education has been developed for parents and athletes.

Safe Sport for Parents
Parents are an essential factor to protect children from from physical and sexual abuse. As part of the Safe Sport Initiative, USA Swimming offers this course to increase awareness of how offenders work, how to recognize the signs in children and respond to any infractions, and clear up any myths about child sexual and physical abuse.  This online training does cover sensitive material.

Safe Sport for Athletes
There are two courses for our older athletes.
For those athletes ages 12 - 17, you and your parents should go through this course together.  It covers the basics of Safe Sport, how to set boundaries, what to do if you know someone is getting harmed.  This online training does cover sensitive material, so please watch and discuss this as a family.
If you are over 18, you need to complete the ATHLETE PROTECTION PROGRAM.  You have 30 days after your 18th birthday to complete this training to remain an athlete in good standing with USA Swimming.
