This page has been created to help answer some of the most frequently asked questions about joining ISC.  However, if you have additional questions relating to workouts, meets, events, goal setting, practice schedules, or other swimming related needs, or for questions about administrative matters, such as dues, safety, or policy issues, please contact Head Coach Chip Kline.

When and where will my child practice?
ISC practices in a several locations around Bloomington and Martinsville, including Bloomington North and South High School pools, Indiana University pools, the Bloomington YMCA pools, and Martinsville High School pool.

Directions to these locations can be found here.

How skilled does my child have to be in swimming to join ISC?
ISC welcomes swimmers of all ages and ability levels. Generally swimmers have to swim one length of a 25-yard pool in freestyle and back before joining the most novice group, FUN-damental.

Can my child join ISC if they are involved in other events?
Yes, many swimmers are involved in other sports or activities. As long as all of the scheduled practices are not at the same times, children can attend both activities. Please discuss these issues with your group coach as early as possible.

Where does ISC compete? Does my child have to participate?
ISC competes at events called swim meets held within a 1.5-hour driving radius of Bloomington. Each meet is divided into sessions that can last from 1.5 to 4 hours. Parents can often volunteer at these events as timers or in other positions. Swimmers are encouraged to participate in meets. Some higher-level groups may have specific meet participation requirements.

How do I register?
All ISC members are required to register online.  If you do not have access to the internet, please contact Head Coach Chip Kline for assistance.  The fees, agreements and waivers can viewed at any time during the season under the "Join ISC" tab.

How do I know what group to register for?
If your child is new to swimming please contact a coach to schedule a time for evaluation.  If you child is not new to swimming, please take a look at our Swim Groups Page and when registering, choose the group you think best fits your child's age and ability level.  If after practice begins you or your child's coach think the group is too easy and/or challenging, an adjustment can be made so that they are in the group that fits them best.

How does the trial period work?
If you have never swam for ISC, you are eligible for a one-week trial period. This trial trial period gives you the opportunity to see if ISC fits what you are looking for before committing to the full season. The trial period requires you to register online and set up a payment schedule; however, if you cancel within the first week you will receive a full refund.  This is a requirement of USA Swimming in order to be covered under the club's insurance policy.  If you have swam for ISC in the past, no trial period is available.
