Types of Meets

Classified Age Group Program
United States Swimming (USS) age groups include: 10 & Under, 11- 12, 13-14, and Senior classification that is sometimes further broken down. The Senior age group includes any age USS registered swimmer who has achieved the prescribed qualifying time for the event. Age on the first day of the meet will govern the swimmer''s age for the entire meet.

8 and Under End-of-Season Meet.
At the conclusion of the short course season all 8 and under swimmers will participate in an 8 and under championship meet, which also has a special 6 and under grouping. This is always a great way for these little ones to finish their season.

State Championships
At the end of each short course (winter) and long course (summer) season a meet recognized as the Indiana State Championship is held. It provides an exciting climax to the season for all qualifying swimmers. State meets are for Age Groups and Senior swimmers. There are also Divisional or formerly known as "Semi-state" meets (winter only) held prior to state meets. Cardinal has a proud tradition of competing well in this meet as it often is the last qualifying meet for the state meets.

Zone meets in August and Mid-States Quads in January are for a
swimmer that has achieved an MA (Zones) time or M (Quads) time listed on the National Age Group Time Standard sheet. Making cuts in either of these meets is an honor.

Sectional/Regional Championships
One of the higher levels of achievements Card swimmers strive for is participation in the Sectional Championships, (also called Regional Championships). Swimmers meeting qualifying time standards for this meet travel to compete against the young swimmers in the nation.

Junior and Senior Nationals
Other than the Olympic Trials and the World Championship Trials, the highest level of competition in the United States for our senior swimmers is the USS National Championships. Swimmers here often qualify for United States teams that engage in international competition
