The Decatur Township Aquatic Club will host tryouts for the 2022-23 Short Course Swim Team at the Decatur Township Natatorium. DTAC is open to athletes who are going to be in grades K-12 for the 2022-23 school year! All individuals trying out should be comfortable in the water as this is a competitive team tryout! Minimum requirement to make the Short Course team is 25 yards (one length of the pool) Freestyle!!

Tryout Dates/Times

For the 2022-23 Short Course Season, we will establish tryout dates for potential student athletes on a monthly basis - posting these dates by the 20th of the preceding month. There will be dates available in September, October, November, and December to accomdate the end of other fall sports.

For September, we will host open tryouts at 6:30pm at the Decatur Township Natatorium on the following days.

Monday 12th and Wednesday 14th

No advanced signup is necessary. Please be sure to be on time for the pre-tryout meeting with Coach Grace upstairs.

If an athlete/family cannot make one of these times, please email Coach Grace at [email protected] to schedule a time/day that works for all parties.

What to Bring for the Tryout

Those who are trying out should be dressed in their swimsuits (girls should try to wear a one-piece swimsuit) when arriving to the Natatorium. Those with longer hair should either wear a swim cap or pull their hair back so it does not cover their face while swimming. Be sure to bring a towel inside so athletes can dry off. The locker rooms will not be available for tryouts, so athletes will leave with their suits on. Goggles (no masks) are highly recommended.

What to Expect at the Tryout

At 6:30pm, you will meet with Coach Grace upstairs in the Natatorium Balcony (inside Door 16 at DCHS). He will go over any questions you might have about the club/tryout process. He will escort your child into the pool area for the tryout while parents remain upstairs. The tryout consists of an athlete swimming one length of the pool (75 ft or 25yd) unassisted. We will ask them to do it twice, once on their stomach and once on their back; they will have a break between the two swims. If the athlete has previous knowledge of Breaststroke or Butterfly, they can demonstrate those skills with Coach Grace, but that is optional and not required. After the completion of the swims, athletes will dry off and be escorted back upstairs where Coach Grace will go over the results of the tryout and make recommendations based on the athlete's skill level.
