Zach DeWitt:  Head Senior Coach / Age Group Dryland Lead Coach / Club Director -  Email

Zach DeWitt enters his 8th year as Head Coach & Owner at FRST Swimming.  Serving in a role of Club Director, Zach works predominantly with the HP Senior Group.  Zach has been a transformative leader for the FRST program, striving each day to improve our clubs’ athletes as athletes and people.  FRST has reaped the rewards, going quickly from a team that wasn’t in the top-25 in the VCC ranking within Indiana to as high as 6th recently within our state.

Coach DeWitt took over a very young FRST program, who had never even qualified an athlete for Junior Nationals in 2013.  In 2014, the club qualified its 1st athlete for Speedo Junior Nationals (Adam Destrampe). In the winter of 2018, FRST had 11 athletes at Winter Junior Nationals.  DeWitt’s athletes have won over 50 individual state titles and have broken 8 Indiana Association Records. FRST has finished within the top 5 at both the Senior State and Age Group State level within the last 3 years, which we believe is an indication of sustained success.

Zach is also the Head Coach at Franklin Community High School.  He’s helped turn around a program that hadn’t won a sectional title in 27 years (boys & girls) to becoming a perennial sectional title winner. The Franklin Boys have won the past 7 years in a row (2013-2019), while the girls have won the last 4 years (2016-2019).  Most recently, the girls finished as 2nd place at the 2019 IHSAA State Championships, while the boys won 2nd Runner-Up trophy in as many years, behind Carmel High School.

Coach DeWitt has spent quite a lot of time in helping with Indiana Swimming camps and development.  DeWitt was selected for the 2016 Senior Elite Development Camp as well has the 2017 Indiana Swimming Olympic Training Center Camp.  FRST has hosted an Age Group Divisional Camp in 2015, where DeWitt was instrumental in organizing the programming.

Zach lives in Franklin with his wife, Ruby, and his Bernese Mountain dogs (Osi and Friar).  He teaches Spanish I & II at FCHS and enjoys traveling, cultures, and his hometown sports teams.

Sean Barry:  Head Age Group Coach / Lead Challenger & Eclipse Coach -  Email

Sean Barry is entering his 12th year coaching. During that time, he has worked with age group, seniors, high

school, and college swimmers. He has designed and implemented training programs for age group and senior swimmers that have helped swimmers maximize their potential leading to individual state titles, qualifying for

junior and senior nationals, as well as helping them achieve their goals of swimming at the college level. Having built a team from 65 swimmers to 210 in under 2 years Sean’s team was able to place top 15 in Indiana at the age group and senior level.

Now, Sean is excited to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to FRST. While his role here will be multi-faceted, his main responsibility will be to help guide the development of our age group team. He will be coaching Challenge and Eclipse to help build a bridge between the age group and senior teams. Along with his coaching responsibilities, Sean will also be working with all of our coaches to increase communication, transparency and ensure that all of our athletes are getting the most out of their FRST experience.

Sean is a firm believer in the power of relationships to help athletes achieve at the highest level. He believes that an honest and open culture leads to fun and fast swimming. When it comes to the pool, Sean’s goal is helps to make sure his athletes are process oriented and develop all aspects of their strokes through drilling, repetition, and constant feedback. He loves to use video during practice and competition to help athletes see what is going on in the pool.

Tony’s experience in the swimming world goes back a few years.  Tony began coaching at Center Grove while he was still just a swimmer there.  He began there in 1985 and continued coaching at CGAC while attending IU. In 1993, after graduating college, Tony went to Crawfordsville High School to become the Head Girls coach for the high school, Age group coach for Sugar Creek Swim Club and also Head Coach for the middle school girls and boys.  Tony’s final year at Crawfordsville and Sugar Creek was 1999.

While he was away for nearly 16 years, Tony’s heart was always in coaching the sport of swimming.  We’re pleased that he was able to “make the plunge” just a few years ago.

Tony has lived in Franklin for 8 years with his wife, Missy and 4 kids.  Two of his children are students at the local high school, Franklin Community.  Gracie, a senior at Franklin HS, plans on attending Ball State and Medical school.  Ryan is currently a sophomore at Franklin HS.  Tony also has a rescue dog named Mac.  Mac is referred to as a Heinz 57 because he has 16 different breeds in him.

Carrie Utterback:  Spark Coach / 10 & Under Assistant Coach    Email

Coach Carrie Utterback is returning to FRST after a stint coaching in Columbus. She's well-revered here within our program, with many of her swimmers going on to have great successes as they've grown up within FRST.

Carrie has a rich background in the sport and we could not be happier to have her back on deck. Her ability to help our newest swimmers learn the skills necessary to grow in the sport is only matched by her love for working to help kids find success while having fun as they begin their swimming journey. Our number one priority right now within our 10&U program is developing great relationships with our athletes and our families.

Coach Carrie won’t be our “Lead” group coach, however, you can expect to see her on the deck on most days.  Her mission within FRST for the coming season is mentoring our newer coaches to help them with parent perspectives, communication, curriculum, relationship building, and leadership efforts.
