LCA News - Week 7 (SCY)

Adam Young

Here are this week’s updates:

SCHEDULE – There is a lot going on the next two weeks!

First, no practices for any groups Saturday.  Everyone should come to the Intrasquad meet!

Developmental, Minnows:  In order to make up for Thursday last week as well as Saturday this week please feel free to come to as many extra practices as you would like this week and next.  The A&B schedule will remain so be mindful of start times.  I would appreciate a heads-up email with what days you wish to come.  We will also continue these groups October practices Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday next week.

***Remember:  No Red group on Mondays.  No Developmental/Minnows on Friday.

Looking ahead to next week:  White and Blue will have 2-hour practices with the extra half hour as make-up for Halloween and Saturday.

***NO PRACTICE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31st (HALLOWEEN) FOR ANY GROUPS.

***BNL GIRLS BEGIN MONDAY, OCTOBER 28th.  THIS WILL BEGIN THE WINTER PHASE OF OUR SCHEDULE.

WINTER SCHEDULE – The H.S. teams finish practice at 5:45. We will attempt to have Developmental, Minnows and Red Group practices begin at 5:45.

This is the beginning of the busiest time of year at the pool.  HS swimmers leaving as LCA swimmers arrive and so on.  LCA swimmers need to stay off deck until the H.S. swimmers finish practice.  It is also a good idea for 10 & Under swimmers to come to the pool dressed and ready.  First, so we can begin practice promptly.  Second, so we can keep the off-deck bathrooms by the concession stand available for adults to use.  No swimmers should change in these bathrooms.  Diamond, Senior, Blue and White will start at 6:00 allowing for easier transition between teams/practices.

Developmental, Minnows, Red and Senior groups will practice M/W/F.  White group will practice M/T/TH/F.  Blue & Diamond groups will practice M – F.  Some Blue and White practices will be 2 hours when pool conflicts limit how may days we can practice.

***Maintaining the schedule this time of year is always a challenge.  If you see something that looks off or that I may have overlooked please do not hesitate to email me for confirmation.

  1. Saturday attendance has been well below the threshold necessary to justify scheduling them in November.  Saturday’s may be added for some groups should they become necessary.  As well the HS teams go until noon so Saturday practices wouldn’t start until noon if we were to schedule them.  Feedback on Saturday’s is welcome.

SWIM MEET SCHEDULE UPDATE – The RAC meet has been taken off the schedule.  The Seymour meet is two weeks after and it doesn’t make sense to have two away meets within two weeks of each other right now.  So, I am asking everyone to circle the Seymour meet as well as the Jasper meet after the New Year.  Our younger swimmers should be ready to compete if they have not already done so.  I would like for us to take good sized teams to both meets.

FALL INTRASQUAD – This Saturday, October 26th.  Warmups at 9:00.  Meet begins at 10.  This is a great opportunity for:

  • HS swimmers to get times before the start of their season.  Especially in non-HS events.
  • New and newer swimmers to get times thus avoiding the dreaded “No Time” heat at swim meets.
  • Grandparents, aunts, uncles, 3rd cousins etc. to see how fast their swimmer is getting!

***IF YOU HAVE NOT YET SIGNED UP FOR THIS MEET PLEASE DO SO ASAP.

VOLUNTEER HOURS OPPORTUNITIES – There are a lot of BNL home meets this season.  Here are some upcoming opportunities to get volunteer hours:

Saturday, November 16th – BNL vs. Jeffersonville

Thursday, November 21st – BNL Intrasquad

Tuesday, November 26th – BNL vs. Edgewood

Saturday, November 30th – BNL vs. Floyd Central

Thursday, December 5th – BNL vs. Bloomington North

***WE NEED A COUPLE OF PEOPLE THAT WOULD BE INTERESTED IN LEARNING SOME OF THE TECHNICAL WORK IN THE CROWS NEST.  THESE JOBS JUST TAKE A LITTLE TRAINING AND IF YOU ARE GOOD WITH COMPUTERS, ELECTRONICS, GADGETS ETC. THESE POSITIONS ARE WORTH LOOKING AT!

  • Computer Operator/Admin
  • DAK Operator
  • Timing System Setup

LOCKER ROOMS – We will begin transitioning to use of the girls PE locker room next week.  The on-deck locker room will be for Diamond/Senior swimmers only.  It will be available for restroom use.  There are only 2 shower stalls in that locker room, and it is causing some late departures in the evening.  The PE locker room is much larger.

  • No changes for the boys.

Have a great week!
