Junior 1 (11-14): Advanced Competitive

Junior 1 is the most advanced group in the FISH age group program. It is designed to train those swimmers who are seeking to compete at the Age Group State level train to make the most of their talents and abilities while continuing to progress them towards success in the senior program. Members of this group are required to be qualified for Divisional meet in multiple events and striving to qualify and final at the Age Group State meet in their age group (with some lenience granted to those swimmers who have recently aged up) and must have shown their dedication to all aspects of the sport through participation in USA Swimming’s IMX Program. Swimmers in this group are also expected to be competent in all skills related to advanced competitive swimming, including the backstroke to breaststroke crossover turn. In this group coaches will use a wide variety of resources and techniques to maximize the performance of each athlete, while teaching them the value of dedication and hard work. These swimmers will become leaders on the team and will be held to high standards of attendance, performance, and attitude. Swimmers in Junior 1 are expected to attend at least four of the five practice sessions each week with three of the five being required to remain in good standing within the group. Attendance issues at this level are taken seriously and will be addressed on a case by case basis at the coach’s discretion. Additionally, swimmers at this level are expected to view meets as opportunities to compete and should attend all meets as directed by their coach.
