Club Director/ Head Senior Group Coach

Coach Hembree began his swimming career at the age of ten swimming for NASA. He continued with the club until graduating high school in 2005. During his high school career Coach Hembree was a 4 year all conference selection as well as a member of the 2004 IHSAA State runner up 400 Freestyle relay. In 2005 he was selected as team captain by his teammates and went on to finish fifth in the 200 Individual Medley and top 16 in the 500 freestyle at the IHSAA State championships. Coach Hembree was also selected as the team’s mental attitude award winner his senior year.

After high school Coach Hembree continued his swimming career at Ball State University while pursuing a teaching degree in technology education. While a member of the Cardinal’s swim team he was a four year Mid-American Conference qualifier and set the second fastest time in school history in the 400 individual medley. During his Ball state swimming career Coach Hembree received honors as the four year Distance Freestyle high point award recipient,  Individual Medley high point award recipient, Outstanding Freshman award recipient and was part of the Ball State 800 free relay that finished 3rd at the Mid-American Championships.

After Graduating from Ball State with a Bachelor’s of Science in Technology Education Coach Hembree took a teaching job and the head women’s swim coach job with Elkhart Community Schools. He led the Elkhart Central Women’s Swim team to a 3rd place finish at sectionals and was named sectional coach of the year. During his time in Elkhart Coach Hembree was responsible for the formation of the Blue Wave Aquatic Club, now Elkhart United Aquatics. In 2011 Coach Hembree became the Engineering Technology Department Chair at Northridge High School, as well as the NASA senior group assistant coach and the assistant high school coach. Since that time Coach Hembree has taken on many different responsibilities with the club team including being the webmaster and the entry chair and finally becoming the Club Director and the Head Coach for the High school team in 2017. During his first years as the head coach of the raiders Coach Hembree led the boys team to their 20th consecutive NLC championship and the girls team to a Runner-Up finish at the IHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships, while being named Conference, Sectional, and State Coach of the year.

Coach Hembree is a USA Swimming certified coach holding certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Instructor, CPR and Safety Training for Swim Coaches. He is also a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) ,where he has obtained a Level 3 certification, and the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA).

Coach Hembree has been married to Brittany for thirteen years and they have 3 children Madox, Hudson, and Peighton.

Head Age Group Coach/ Middle School Gold Lead Coach

Dan swam competitively from 6th grade through his high school career at Carroll High School. Upon completion he was asked to coach by his former high school coach. Dan served on the FWST coaching staff for 11 years and starting with 10 and unders until he became Head age group coach in 2011. In this time FWST Age Group State Team won the Spirit Award 2 times. Dan has been selected to be a member of the Team Indiana coaching staff at the 2016 Mega Zone Meet, 2013, 2014, 2015 Zone Meets, 2013-2016 Mid States Meets. Also he has been on staff at many camps and clinics hosted by Indiana Swimming and USA Swimming. Dan has coached numerous swimmers to Age Group State medals and several State Champions/IAR Record Holders. He was also nominated for Indiana Age Group Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016.

Dan has been happily married to Emma Herber for 3+ years and enjoys classic car restorations, channeling his inner geek, and coffee.

Middle School Blue Group Lead Coach

Growing up, Andrew attended Middlebury Community Schools and graduated in 2015 from Northridge High School. Coach Andrew started swimming for NASA at age eight. Along with swimming he was a ten year 4-H member, a seven year band student, and singed in choir. Throughout school he was a swim instructor for our swim school program, & a lifeguard. A few of his prestigious moments in high school includes Indiana All-State Honor Band, National Junior Leaders Council, & receiving the John Phillip Sousa Award. During college he was a swim instructor & lifeguard supervisor for Western Michigan University. While attending college, he studied Music Education & Interpersonal Communications. Andrew has since shifted his career interests to coaching and aquatics. Andrew is a USA Swimming certified coach & holds the following certifications.

Anthony Powell

Elementary Gold Group Lead Coach

Coach Powell began his swimming career in the early 1990’s swimming under Coach Joe Keller until he graduated from Northridge High School in 2000.  Coach Powell was a member of the first boys NLC Championship in 1999 followed by the first Sectional Championship in 2000.  He competed at the IHSAA State Championship meet his Junior and Senior years.  After High School he pursued his career as a Firefighter / Paramedic with the Goshen City Fire Department.  Coach Powell is currently an Assistant Chief at Goshen City Fire Department overseeing the Operations of the Fire Department.  He is a member of the Elkhart County Joint SWAT Team operating in the roll of Tactical Paramedic.  Even with his deep love of the Fire Service he is still drawn back to his roots of the NASA swim team where he believes he learned life lessons and gained an understanding of how to be successful in life.  

Coach Powell has been married to his wife Tara for 16 years and they have 2 daughters swimming in the NASA program.  When he is not at the Fire Dept. or the pool he enjoys hanging out with family at home, at the lake, or on a vacation.

Elementary Blue Group Lead Coach

Emma started swimming competitively at age 6 and swam for 12 years on USA Swimming and summer league teams in Michigan and Indiana through high school. She started coaching for Fort Wayne Swim Team (formerly NACS) in 2011 and coached primarily 6-10 year olds through the spring of 2017. She has been the head coach of a summer league team of 140 kids in Fort Wayne for the summers of 2012 and 2013, coached the girl's team at Bishop Dwenger High School in the '13-'14 season, and was the girl's team coach at NMS for the '17-'18 season. Emma has been married to Dan - yes, coach Dan, and yes, they met at a pool - for over 6 years and they have a 1 year old daughter, Gwynnie. Emma is thrilled to be back on deck again and is excited to be part of NASA!

Travis Hembree                                    

Senior Group Assistant

Coach Travis began his swimming journey at the age of eight with NASA. He continued till he graduated high school in 2008. He was a part of the conference and sectional teams along with the state team all four years of his high school career. Travis also broke the school record in the 200 freestyle in 2008. 


Travis started coaching with NASA/Northridge in 2019 and plans to continue coaching for the foreseeable future.


Travis has been married to his wife  Kristi for 2 years now and has three children Ryker, Castle, and Emilia

Evan Troyer                                      

Senior Group Assistant

Coach Troyer started swimming competitively at the age of 8 after hearing about NASA on the York Elementary School announcements. He was among the first swimmers to swim all the way through school under Coach Keller, and a member of the first Northridge High school swimming team to win the sectional/conference title in high school. He was a member of many championship teams during his time swimming, and soon after he began coaching for NASA, where he has been a coach or assistant coach to almost every athlete in the program for the past 12 years.
