COVID-19 UTSC Guidleines

Below are the Union Township Swim Club's 2020 summer season guidelines for COVID-19; they were written in conjunction with the guidelines and recommendations issued by the State, Union Township School Corporation and USA Swimming. UTSC has decided to err on the side of caution in respect for our community, Wheeler High School and for our own swimmers who are either labeled 'high risk', or go home to family members that are at a higher risk of developing severe complications brought on by COVID-19. The UTSC board and coaches appreciate your understanding, patience and cooperation.

General Guidelines:

  • It’s the parents responsibility to keep children home and notify coaches if they test positive for COVID-19 or are exhibiting any of the following symptoms (even if symptoms are mild):

    • Fever or chills

    • Cough

    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

    • Fatigue

    • Muscle or body aches

    • Headache

    • New loss of taste or smell

    • Sore throat

    • Congestion or runny nose

    • Nausea or vomiting

    • Diarrhea

  • If a child exhibits any of the above symptoms while at practice, they will be asked to exit the pool and parents will be contacted for pick up.

  • If a swimmer has come in contact with (within 6 ft. for 15 min.) any person who tested positive for COVID-19, they are not allowed at practice for 14 days since last contact.

  • If any participating member of UTSC (swimmer or coach) tests positive for COVID-19 all team functions will be suspended for 14 days.

  • Dues are non-refundable for health related absences.

Out of water:

  • Face masks must be worn by all swimmers, coaches and/or spectators in the parking lot and in the facility while on deck or in the stands.

  • Office and high-touch areas will be wiped down daily after practice.

  • UTSC swimmers and spectators shall only use the pool facility and adjacent locker rooms. All other areas in Wheeler High School are off limits.

  • Social distancing of 6 feet must be practiced while in the facility.

    • Tape will be used to mark 6 feet distances on benches surrounding the pool area for swim bag placement.

    • Tape will be used to mark 6 feet distance in stands for spectators.

  • Locker rooms will be used for bathrooms only (one at a time), not changing. Swimmers should enter and exit the facility in their swimming attire.

  • Drylands when performed, will take place in the pool area, 6 feet apart, without masks.

In the water:

  • Social distancing will be practiced while swimmers are in the pool: 6 feet distance between swimmers while resting, no ‘social kicking’, etc.

  • Pool capacity shall not exceed 24 swimmers. In this instance, we will either arrange for staggered start times (by level) or arrange out of water activities.

  • Social distancing diagrams (like pictured below) will be posted in the facility and explained to the swimmers.

  • Cones or other markers will be used as a reference to show 6 ft distances.

  • There will be no splashing, touching, spitting or yelling allowed by swimmers.

  • Only one warning will be issued to swimmers for not following our guidelines, a second infraction will result in removal from practice.
