Head Coach:

Jake Alexander  (Blue Group)

        Jake has coached for a total of 10 years. He started his coaching career in Huntingburg and coached for a couple of years before coming to VST in 2008. He grew up swimming for Southridge High School and then joined the Vincennes University swim team. He swam at Nationals both years at VU. He and his wife Kelly have two beautiful daughters, Korbin and Kennedy. He enjoys spending his free time with his family and horeseback riding at his dad's house. 


Gage Cooper (White Group and Purple Group)

        Coach Gage was born and raised in Vincennes. He swam competitively for 12 years. He started swimming when he was 6 years old with VST. In his free time he enjoys swimming, spending time with his family and doing some woodworking. He enjoys making bird houses and coffee tables. Gage started coaching with VST in December 2020 and hopes to coach for a long time because he really enjoys it!


Josh Magruder (Red Group)

       Coach Josh was born and raised in Vincennes. He recently joined VST coaching staff, but was the Assistant Coach for Clark Middle School swim team a year before that. He swam for VST in the 90's and then continued swimming for Lincoln High School. He attended Vincennes University and was set to swim for their team, but the program didn't continue. He works part-time for an aircraft mechanic at the Lawrenceville-Vincennes airport. He is finishing his training to become a Certified Flight Instructor. He enjoys running and flying in his free time. He also has fun decorating his yard for Christmas as a runway for Santa to fly across the world. He and his wife Chris have a daughter, Sophia, who is on the team.


Matt Powell (Red Group)

       Coach Matt has been coaching swimming for 23 years. He has been the head coach of the Olney Tigersharks summer swim team for 22 years. He has served as an assistant swim coach with Sullivan Blue Dolphins, VST, Jasper Aquatic Wildcats, Heartland Hurricanes and now back with VST. He grew up swimming for the Sullivan Blue Dolphins and then Decatur Swim Club before swimming at Eastern Illinois University serving as Captain his Senior year.  He and his wife Michelle have three children, Owen, Carolyn and Ben. Owen and Carolyn are currently attending the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as education majors and are members of the Mens and Womens Swimming and Diving Teams. His son Ben is a member of VST. He teaches science at Richland County High School, where he serves as head softball coach and an assistant football coach.
