Divisionals Recap – Hosting meets requires a true team effort, and what a great effort it was over the weekend by our families and swimmers. Divisionals was a smashing success and none of it would be possible without you, our parents and families. Your time, energy and dedication to our team allowed us to put on this exciting event for our swimmers and guests. Thank you to all WTSC family members who contributed to the cause but in particular, thank you to the following individuals who logged more than 40 hours of volunteer time over the weekend: Autumn Leppert & Emily Wolfe (meet directors), Amy Jaeger (concessions chair), Myra Washum (hospitality chair), Julie Kiefer (safety chair), Julie Spicer (volunteer coordinator) and Marty Spicer, our ever-present announcer and DJ. Our volunteer effort set the stage for a full weekend of fast swimming with WTSC swimmers at the forefront. An updated Honor Roll is posted online and at the pool but the following swimmers earned special shout outs for their accomplishments. Divisionals serves as a championship meet on its own merit but also a qualifier for the State meets and our Age Group State roster grew by leaps and bounds over the weekend. Congratulations to the following WTSC swimmers who earned new State cuts in their respective events: Sebastian Granados (100 Breaststroke), Amos Groothuis (100 & 200 Freestyle; 100 Backstroke), Elaina Spicer (200 Freestyle; 50 & 100 Backstroke; 50 & 100 Breaststroke; 200 IM), Kayley Spicer (200 IM), Lillian Tabor (200 Backstroke) and Annie Wolfe (100 & 200 Freestyle; 100 Backstroke; 200 IM). In addition, the 200 Medley Relay team of Annie, Elaina, Hadasa Garcia-Esquivel and Leah Kiefer punched their ticket to State with their winning performance. WTSC relays took home several gold medals including Kayley, Ruby Brown, Georgia Coleman and Carlise Leppert in the 200 Freestyle Relay; Carlise, Kayley, Ruby and Aiko Walls in the 200 Medley Relay; Sebastian, Zachary Bumps, Jack Campbell and Kellen Ford in the 200 Freestyle Relay and Jack, Kellen, Sebastian and Axel Garcia-Esquivel in the 200 Medley Relay. And individual first-place finishes were turned in by the following WTSC swimmers in their respective events: Axel Garcia-Esquivel (1650 Freestyle), Sebastian Granados (100 Breaststroke), Amos Groothuis (100 & 200 Freestyle; 50 Butterfly; 100 Backstroke), Zander Moreno (200 Butterfly), Kayley Spicer (100 & 200 Freestyle; 200 IM) and Annie Wolfe (100 & 200 Freestyle; 100 Backstroke; 200 IM). Check out the Honor Roll for these accomplishments and many more. Thank you again to our families for your commitment to our team and way to go WTSC!
Senior State – After an amazing team performance at Divisionals, our Senior swimmers get their turn this weekend at the Indiana Swimming Senior State Championships (March 9-12 @ Pike HS). An informational blast was sent to all participating families earlier this week but for anyone wanting to follow the action, check out results on Meet Mobile or click HERE to be taken to the Senior State event page where you can find a link to a webcast, ticket information and more. Please speak with Coach Josh if you have questions about this event. Good luck to our swimmers in action this weekend at Senior State.
Schedule Changes – There have been two changes made to our March practice schedule, both of which have been added to the calendar available on the “Practice Schedule” tab of our website. The Gold Group will practice from 5:30-7pm this Friday, March 10, and there will be no Senior morning practice on Monday, March 13. Any additional changes to our practice schedule will be communicated ASAP.
Swimmers of the Month – WTSC is proud of the following swimmers who were selected as Swimmers of the Month for February by their coaches: Jack Steadham (Senior); Hadasa Garcia-Esquivel (Gold); Hayden Rodgers (Silver); Henry Holsapple (Bronze). Congratulations to our Swimmers of the Month for their hard work and dedication.
Food Drive – WTSC is once again in the spirit of giving with our ongoing food drive. Each training group has a donation box on the pool deck at North Central HS. Our goal is to collect as many non-perishable food items and canned goods as possible by the end of Friday’s practice. These items will be donated to local charities. The training group that collects the most donations will receive an ice cream party! Please give to this worthy cause and speak with WTSC Business Manager Julie Spicer if you have questions about our food drive.
Age Group State – Following Senior State is Age Group State (March 17-19 @ IUPUI Natatorium). Age group state is the 14&Under state championship meet and like Divisionals and Senior State, qualifying times are in place. A meet schedule and order of events document has been loaded to the meet page on the WTSC website and additional information will be provided as we get closer to the date. Please speak with Coach Todd or your group coach if you have questions about this event.
End-of-Season Dates & Spring Start – The last practice of the short course season for Bronze, Silver and Gold swimmers will be Monday, March 20 and the last practice for Senior swimmers will be Wednesday, March 22. There will be a pool party for all WTSC swimmers and families on Tuesday, March 21 from 5:30-7:30pm. Bring your rafts, toys and swimsuits and celebrate our many accomplishments this season. After our pool party we will take a much-needed break, but another awesome season of WTSC swimming will begin on Monday, April 10. Additional information regarding our spring startup will be made available as we get closer to the date.
