Today's throwback is actually two races that demonstrate one of our pillars of tactical training and racing here at BSC! Amanda competed at the US Olympic Team Trials in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. She is a 7 time Olympic Medalist and an Inductee into the Swimming Hall of Fame. I think her career shows that you are never too young and never too old if you are willing to put in the time and do the work! At the 1996 Atlanta Games Amanda Beard was only 14! She...

This week's throwback is the 1976 Women's 4x100 Free Relay. This is an absolute legendary swim in the swimming community. During this time in history the East German Women were dominating the World Record board. They continued that dominance during the 1976 Games as well. This Relay was the last chance Team USA had to win a Gold Medal on the Women's Side. The race and all the underlying storylines are the subject of the documentary The Last Gold. USA Swimming is offering viewing of this movie for free. Watch...

Today our throwback is from the 2000 Sydney Games. In this race Misty Hyman showed what being mentally prepared for your race really means. In this 200Fly Final, Susie O'Neil and Petria Thomas from Australia were the prohibited favorites in the race. Susie was the reigning Gold Medallist and Petria Had been one of the tops in the World leading up to the games. WOW can you imagine that, standing behind the blocks as a member of Team USA getting ready to swim in the Olympic Final against two of...

Hey BSC! This week's throwback is from US Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale 2002. I actually was on deck for this race and it was even more amazing in person. The things that made this race revoloutionary was that it destroyed the common belief that all good IM swimmers were primarily breaststrokers. Phelps at this time was the World Record Holder in the 200Fly and Vendt was already an Olympic Medalist in the 400IM and an elite 1500M swimmer. The other revoloution during this swim was the amount of underwaters Phelps...

Happy Throwback Thursday BSC! Today we are lookng at another old school legnedary Olympic Swim. Today it is Tom Dolan's Gold Medal 400IM from the Atlanta games in 1996. During his competitive swim career Tom was the utlimate overcomer of his time. Dolan had sever asthma and the legend has it that he would often push himself to the brink of passing out during practices. I don't recommend pushing yourself to quite that level, but that level of all in totall commitment is what made Tom Dolan one of the...
